I do know I seen Him bracketed, and coverage rolled His way more than once.......So if all that is going on.....then that means someone else is probably either open , or more open than Pickens.
Doesn't mean every game will be that way .

Potential is what he had as a rookie. As a 4 year starter who can't be trusted (with a 35mil$ extension), he has a flaw.

DJ is a very good WR, his ability to get open is elite. I’ll have to see if I can find a chart I came across which covers all the WR, DJ’s ability was unparalleled. His efficiency was well north of the top WRs in the league though.

The amount of drops isn’t even the problem, better WR’s have more than him, its the timing of them. Drive killing drops.

They need someone talented in the slot

    https://www.si.com/nfl/steelers/allsteelers-plus/mark-slot-receiver-pittsburgh-steelers-draft-list

Here is where the Steelers rank in terms of wide receiver production from the slot:

    Targets: 93 (30th)
    Receptions: 54 (31st)
    Yards: 540 (32nd)
    Yards After Catch: 180 (32nd)

I think Pickens’ route running ability is a weakness in his game. I see him as an athletic glider but not the type of receiver that plants hard and turns on a dime creating the kind of separation that DJ does. That’s okay, it’s more difficult for taller receivers to plant and turn than it is for more compact receivers. Admittedly, this is just my perception based on what I’ve seen but I haven’t studied an all 22 like some of you have. It does seem that an inordinate number of his receptions have been contested catches which indicates to me he’s not getting separation. Some are intentional, back shoulder type catches though.

He is a guy that can make contested catches.
Perfecting his routes and timing with the QB will only help him become better.

Trust is the issue. That and the dropped passes, running backwards, situational awareness, etc. He can get open though.

As good as his route running is, you would think his run after the catch would be better.

I don't care who catches the ball. just don't drop it- fumble it- miss it. As long as it's a Steeler. Throw it to them all.
