Not only that but he could beat off defenders with the best of them. Throw in those finger tackles and he was a bona-fie triple threat.

    Ahh deep.ball placement.

So can he get deep and place it right. I think that may be a growing pain as some have suggested with speed, timing, etc.

That's why I referenced the middle part of his career.

Him and Wallace set a Steelers record for deep passes. It might have even extended past the Steelers for a record but Im not certain on that.

Towards the end of his career he couldn’t throw deep anymore with any accuracy but in the early part of his career he was good at it.

I think it’s more an issue of him being overly worried about turnovers and not having complete faith in his WRs. If you miss high, the pass sails and there’s a decent chance it’s an INT. If you throw low it’s in the dirt. Hopefully the dirt throws go away as he gains more confidence and worries less about INTs.

Just read a bit about DJ talking about how GP needs to keep himself in check against the Ravens and not allow them to trash talk him and rattle him. He pretty much displayed on TV he can lose his cool. So at least DJ is talking to him and keeping the rook in check. Everyone wants GP to be successful so if he fails to be elite its totally on him.

I’d agree if you were actually correct

Good Ben had a great deep ball

Bad Ben threw overthrew the receiver and gave up interceptions

    Good Ben retired years ago

Bad Ben retired at the end of last season

we will agree to disagree. He did not have a great deep ball early, w Randle El, Hines and Plax, nor with Santonio Holmes. With Wallace, for a few years, he chucked it long and Wallace ran under and grabbed it - for 3 or 4 years. and A Brown was a a flyer - he was a great receiver, but not a deep threat flyer. No one (other than Steeler homer fans) will call Ben a great deep ball thrower- no one. He made GREAT PLAYS, but not b/c he threw a great deep ball.

Wrong. The Man led the league, or was in top 5 almost every year with air yards until He got old. Not yards after the catch.... How would someone with a terrible deep ball do this????

Watching All 22 film, I have seen a few times where Pickett seemed to wait and extra beat before throwing the deep ball, and that has allowed the safety to affect the play. I’ve seen him do that throwing to both Pickens and DJ in the past few weeks. He needs to identify the matchup sooner and rip it. That should come with time and reps.

On the other subject, I thought Ben had a good, but not consistently great deep ball. Where I thought Ben was even better was zipping in a 20 yard dig route, which takes even more arm strength than a 60 yard lollipop. He used to be money hitting AB on those.
