Haley deserves some Props

The Browns game is an obvious case of poor execution. Doesn't get much worse then that. But I'm a firm believer in how much a good coach can make a difference. You are basically playing a chess match and have to out think your opponent, if your opponent knows whats coming, it's going to make your job that much more difficult, I don't care how good the execution is. Also like chess, you need to think several moves ahead, using plays to set up other plays later in the game.

With the exception of the Denver game - I think every Steelers loss came down to execution on one side of the ball or the other. Against Tennessee and Oakland - our defense failed to execute in the 4th quarter of both games, and the offense didn't get it done when it counted. I wouldn't hang either of those losses on coaching. In the first Ravens game - it was one Special Teams play that was executed poorly or we have that game in the win column. The Cleveland game speaks for itself. As far as Denver goes - the defense did not execute in the 4th quarter - but Manning does that to a lot of teams. On the offensive side - I would chalk it up to the offense being so new at that point - maybe they weren't prepared to execute Haley's offense to its full capability.

I really think that things are upgraded this year from the standpoint of game planning on the part of the OC. It seemed that BA had the same game plan no matter who they were playing. Those who know me know that I was NOT one who advocated getting rid of BA - however, in hindsight, I can see a huge difference in the way each game has been planned and called. That brings it down to a question of execution in my mind. Earlier in the year, the offense was just learning what they needed to do and where they needed to be. Even the verbage used for plays was different. I'm looking forward to seeing what Ben does when he returns, simply because I think that things will have become more automatic, and the offense will start making Haley look VERY good.

Yeah but don't forget that players on the Raiders and I think it was Denver also, each said they knew what was coming on defense, that's on the coaching. The offense certainly executed enough to win the Raiders game, the Denver game they probably could have done better, think they only put up like 19 or 20 points.

Yeah, I can't wait for Ben to get back, I think things were just starting to click for this offense when he got hurt. I'm not sure how quick they will get back in sync when he returns or how well he will be able to play with the shoulder but the sooner he is able to play the quicker they can get this offense rolling again.

Hey Tommy Boy go over to NFL.COM and get that article on Haley. It's really good but you know I don't know how to do that fancy schmancy stuff like putting links and all that. Really I think the article deserves a whole thread because he basically talks about the players strengths and weaknesses and even his OWN. You should bring it over here when you get a minute. And by "when you get a minute" I mean NOW DANG IT!!!

Don`t read that the wrong way. He wasn`t here before, so it isn`t like HE finally realized it...
But if our previous O-coordinater had realized it, can you imagine what Heath`s stats would have been at this point? And how many more games we may have won?!?

Also, forcing Ben to play the dink and dunk, instead of long ball all game long!
It SHOULD have led to Ben staying healthier... He was taking MUCH fewer hits this year, but any one single hit, can produce an injury to ANY player.
Also, like the t.o.p. under Haley... Don`t care if it`s done thru the air, or on the ground.. Having the ball longer, ESPECIALLY with our Defense, gives you a better chance of winning...
Also, I like his lack of being predictable. Nice mix of plays.
Yes, he uses "that damn bubble screen", but doesn`t use it so often as to defeat it`s effectiveness...
Sure there have been some head scratching calls, (like Rainey up the middle at the goal line), however, overall...
Where do I sign up to be just a due paying mamber, in the Todd Haley fan club?

As to Haley`s "genius"... I Dunno... yet... he is clearly moving in the right direction, tho, and with time, I believe will get us to the promised land.
Doesn`t take a genius to be better than Bruce, tho.. Despite what he`s doing in Indy.
