Barring any setbacks, looks like Ben will play this week. The article also goes on to say that Ike is wearing a boot and his status is uncertain and will be evaluated in a couple weeks but that Tomlin was pleased with Allen and Browns play last week.

    http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/blog/n...thlisberger-should-return-sunday-vs-san-diego

Other personnel moves mentioned in that article:

Mendy will be riding the pine again.

Colon is expected back but Pouncey will play LG again with Legs back at center and Beachum will get his 2nd straight start at RT. Adams is still out.

Sanders and Wallace both have been limited in practice, Sanders with a AC sprain of his shoulder and Wallace with inflammation in his right knee.

    Cotchery is set to return.

Clark has a hip contusion, practice may be limited, expected to be teamed with Troy again Sunday.

    Woodley listed as questionable.

What has Mendy done to be on the bench another week? Dwyer, Redman, and Rainey all fumbled too. I would like to see a healthy Mendenhall in Haley's offense for a few games, instead of just giving up on him and releasing him which seems to be the path we're taking.

If he is healthy, he should play. The defense should have a great game because of the Chargers o-line injuries.

He's being benched for lack of preparation, he was benched for that a few seasons ago too.

Why would pouncey be at guard and legs at center if colon is healthy.

Do you think Ben should just sit until next year? Maybe he should go on IR if it's that serious to sit another game after missing three and a half already

Remember Ben's been off a while, he is going to be a little rusty, and it's going to take some playing to get back in the zone:cool:

Everytime this team gets to thinking a game might be easy, it's come back to bite them in the butt.

Why would we sit Ben if he is cleared to play? I just don't get that logic. We can't keep him out of the game so he doesnt get injured.

Remember - this is a CBS report. This is the same network that said that Ben was likely to play LAST week. According to Tomlin - they are still game plannig for Batch - with Ben's performance through the week to determine whether or not he plays Sunday. Ben gets the benefit of the doubt if he's ready - but CBS was wrong last week, saying that he was medically cleared to play and that teammates were frustrated that he wasn't practicing enough.

As far as I'm concerned, CBS has lost all credibility after THAT report last week. I'm not saying that Ben's going to be out. I just don't think the source knows what it's talking about.

That report generated from Jason La Canfora of the NFL.com. A writer who spends time at the Steelers facility found it amusing that Canfora would report that since he hasn't been at the facility since Latrobe, apparently Canfora has a rep for reporting bogus stuff.

Yeah, it got deleted pretty quick. It seems they're always trying to push a 'conflict in Pittsburgh' story.

I saw on FB where they will be looking closely at Ben's performance on Wed in practice. Bottom line, Ben needs to be able to make the throws to be able to play. That ability will get better with both time and practice. Time will tell if he progresses enough to play this week.

How much of an uproar would it cause, if we dressed Ben, but made him the back-up to Batch, in case the game wasn`t going well?
I`m one of Batch`s biggest fans, but I was seriously considering putting Hoyer in there, after the first half against Balt.
    Thank God I don`t run the team.:facepalm::eek::goofy:
Not to take San Diego lightly... I take NO team lightly, the way we`ve been playing, but I do see some sense in letting Ben heal another week, against a team we SHOULD beat, without Ben..
Yes, I know he needs his reps in a real game, and I don`t want him to get rusty, but, I also know he will lobby to play, whether he is truly capable, or not. Just gonna have to trust coach T on this one to genuinely "evaluate" Ben`s ability in practice this week...
I don`t see a reason to jeopardize Ben`s long term health, in this game, if he ain`t "good to go"...
    I`m hoping he will be.
    On a side note,
Where did you see that it was a "lack of preparation" benching of Mendy, last week TomlinEra?
I do remember that happening before, and am fine with it, I just never saw any indication of that being the case this time.
If we`re done with him, fine, we`re done with him. I`m not gonna lose sleep over it, given the capability of our other backs.
Still, I agree, that I would like to see him get more chances in this offense, provided we don`t over-pay for him next year.

If Ben is cleared to play he needs to play. I agree, he will be a little rusty. He probably will need to get his timing back with the receivers. I bet he is looking forward to throwing to plax in the redzone.
