this offense has put us in alot of 3rd downs this year total. that's tough to make a living doing.

we are also pretty low in the league in runs over 15-20 yards i'll bet. we have become happy with occasional runs of 5-9 yards with most of those coming under sheer will of the running backs. you can't base an offense on that and feel good about 3rd and 4 and making it running the ball.

we need to see some clean holes once in awhile. we don't have that. it's line mobility. until it's fixed we will not see an offense run as efficient as it should. how many series each week can you guys remember us running twice in a series and moving the chains? we have never had a command of a game running the ball. ben has played above the normal mark on 3rd down. this is why we have won this many so far.

Nothing would make me hapier to see Redman do just that. I've always thought he was a good north/south move the pile back. He added an interseting demension when he caught all those passe against the Titians.

I'm sure mendy will catch on somewhere (san diego, jacksonville, new york come to mind), but he is clearly done in pittsburgh.... dwyer, and redman are more effective, but given their injury concerns, don't be surprised to see the team spend a 3rd or4th rd pick on a runner.

This point has been made again and again, Hack. Some folks just won't have it.

I still wonder how different a number of attitudes would be had he not joined Twitter...

I posted some vids that show Mendy breaking tackles and running for TDs, in the red zone. I can't recall the name of the thread... Maybe I should repost the vids in a respect thread so we can more easily reference them.

I see your point ,and that is the premise of my post...On 1st down the Ravens brought Pollard down into the box about 90% of the time...On 3rd. and 3 and 4 they backed him off 12 yards deep....I think with 1 less guy to block they can create those lanes that we need....

i don't think the coaches have faith that the O-line can do it. and rightfully so, so far. i can't remember a RB coming through a clean hole and running into the secondary very often.

I'm not hating. I like Mendy but I don't believe he fits into our system very well. He's shifty and likes to dance and our style is more north and south (Smash mouth football). I think we will probably draft another back next year and Mendy will be gone. My question is given the sucess of Dwyer and Redman do you think Medny is destin to the bench baring an injury.

So don't get your panties in a bunch I was trying to ask a question so I could see several different opinions, including yours. That doesnt mean we are haters.

he will be a bu till will be free agent and gone , with dwyer and redmann we need a smaller 3rd down back that can turn the corner fast , maybe rainey but is too light , someone like joaquizz rodgers type

I agree totally. I don't like the 3rd and short PA deep down the field. The odds are MUCH better with keeping it on the ground. But if you're gonna pass it it needs to be to Heath.

I think people need to take a closer look at Redman...he has been dancing and spinning just as much as Mendy has.....Just slower

My biggest criticism of Redman is he doesn't seem to have any burst at all. Here's something to think about with Mendy though. Obviously this game was the most important of the year and a MUST win. So you would think that Mendy would be chomping at the bits to be ready to play and redeem himself from that abysmal performance against the clowns. So how is it that in a week like this and a game of this magnitude that ANY player could possibly be deactivated for not preparing?! That should be VERY tell tale about Mendy. I think it's time to let him go. There is no way the Rooney's are gonna break the bank for him when he's OBVIOUSLY not a big time gamer. We should all be mad that Mendy had to be benched for not being ready to play our biggest rival, at their house, with a 3rd string qb, and with our playoff lives on the line! How is it that we don't consider these things? I don't care if he has the best fumbles per carry ratio! If he's not ready when it counts get rid of him and the fact that people don't get this blows my dang mind. I guarantee you Tomlin and the Rooney's get it though and come next year that stupid bum can go somewhere else and be lazy and I will be happy to watch him go. Show up and be ready to play EVERY SINGLE GAME or stay home! Good grief it's ridiculous what people will defend these days!

And let's not forget that this isn't the first time he has been benched for "not preparing". I think Tomlin's had about enough of him anyway.

Exactly. He was benched a few years ago for not preparing against Cincy as well.

Actually the Ravens game was the first time I saw him spin...he definitely wasn't doing that against the Giants...granted there were holes being created for the Giants game. There weren't too many against the Ravens....

Seriously?! Redman's spin is one of his assets - a big contributor to his YAC. I see Redman spin a fair bit more than Mendenhall, in fact. And it's a very positive part of his game (albeit, as Hack says, slower than Mendy)

i dont doubt Mendy's ability. i was very excited when they drafted him, but at this point i think he has lost his job and as a Steeler fan i hope he doesnt get it back. thats not a bash on Mendy. its more of hoping that Dwyer turns out to be the next Bus and keeps that job for the next 5 or 6 years.

Mendy has the big play ability and yes he has accounted for a bunch of td's, but Dwyer will now account for all those td's if hes the starter.

Tomlin mentioned in his press conference that Mendy may get a chance to REDEEM himself,so he is obviously not happy with him.with that being said it could serve as a good motivator ,you can't argue with his big play abilities over the others. We shall see......to be continued.

I want to see a healthy Mendenhall in Haley's offense. Arians clearly didn't use him right and he still had some very productive years. I just can see Mendy catching a screen pass and exploding for a big gain or turning the corner for a big run.

I absolutely agree with this. Overall, I don't think that Mendenhall has had the chance to perform to his capability in Haley's offense. In his career - he has not been prone to fumble, so hopefully he'll get another shot. I also agree that he has a history of "not preparing" and receiving consequences for that. To his defense, though - I think that the whole TEAM was very unprepared for Cleveland. They talked a good game the week before - "division game - Cleveland is better than its record - yada yada yada", but I really think they had mailed that game in as a win as soon as the first loss to Baltimore was complete. I think they bought into the media notion that even without Ben, the Cleveland game should be an easy win. This notion occurred on Monday morning before the Clowns game and probably continued throughout the week in practice - both on the coaching and playing sides.

Back to Mendenhall - I would really like to see him get another chance because I think that if he is inserted in the starting lineup again, he will light it up - even if just to SHOW that he is capable of being a feature back in the NFL. His motivation and preparation level would be so high that we could see a very special game out of him. Most on this thread would seem to agree that he is a gifted runner. Well - I think that he needs that one more shot to showcase those gifts.

I don't buy that for a second, the defense certainly didn't mail it in, I don't believe for a second that Heath has any quit in him, I don't think Batch threw 3 interceptions because he didn't feel they had a chance, I don't think Mendy, Dwyer and Red's fumbles were a product of mailing it in. You have to chalk that game up to just one of those days, total fluke when this team turns over the ball that much.
