Not necessarily. SD is all done now and will be mailing in the rest of the season. The game we really need to win is the Cincy rematch, and even if that is a loss, I can still see the Bengals losing to the Cowboys and Ravens down the stretch (my guess in the latter is that the Ravens may be playing for a bye in week 17). If we win the next 3, we will eliminate the Bengals even if they win their other 2 games.

    Prediction-

We go into week 17 TIED for first place in the divison. How about that?

exactly. inconsistant line play. we could get outside with better mobility. it opens up our playbook and gives us a better opportunity to execute when we can go inside or out. most weeks we can't.

They CAN play with this intensity every game. It's just a "Steeler" thing that they don't until the chips are on the line. It was even that way to a certain extent in the 70s. Wasn't it the year after Super Bowl X that they needed to win their last 6 games or something like that just to qualify for the playoffs?

Cincy has a tough schedule to finish out. home against the Cowboys, @ Eagles, @ Steelers, home against the Ravens. none of those games are gimmies.

Pittsburgh is home against the Chargers, @ Dallas, home against the Cincy and the Browns. i can see 3-1 or 4-0. if they get Ben back.

the Cincy VS Ravens game could be a big one. if the Ravens stumble and loose 2 of their next 3 and Pittsburgh and Cincy both win their next 3 it would be a flat footed tie going into the last week. Cincy and Baltimore would beat each other up and Pittsburgh would have Cleveland. i know Cleveland beat them, but that was without Ben.

not sure how all the tie breakers would work out by then, but i think Baltimore would beat them out do to their conference record. they would have the same division record so i think conference would be next. the Ravens are 8-2 in the conference and the Steelers are 4-5. they would be better off if they ended in a tie with Cincy.

Actually, "common opponents" is the next tie-breaker in line *before* conference. They have the edge currently, but that could change based on what the Ravens do over the next 3 games.

Check me if I'm wrong, here, but we won't get any help from record against common opponents if we end up tied at the end of the year, because WITHIN your division you only have 2 non common opponents, and the Steelers, Ravens, and Bengals are all 1-1 against their 2 non-common opponents. The only divisional non head-to-head tiebreaker we have POTENTIAL to win at the end of the year is against Cincy and only if they lose to the Ravens (divisional record). And believe me, we don't want to be in a position where we need the Ravens to beat the Bengals in week 17, especially if the Ravens end up not having anything to play for (hopefully that won't be the case and we will be gunning for the division title in the last week, but just sayin'). If the Ravens could keep us out of the playoffs by losing to the Bengals in that final week, you might see their cheerleaders suited up.... and still doing fairly well relative to who they're replacing...

I'm through looking at tiebreakers for the time being though. Just win and we're in!

Just win, for goodness sakes, and all will be well. We should beat all the remaining opponents easily, or we don't deserve to be in the playoffs.

Last 9 games, and they still needed help from the Raiders beating Cincy to get in. 2 wins over Cincy broke the tie.

Cincy went 30-12 in 1975-1977, and had only one road playoff game to show for it.

I want to beat Cinci as bad as the next guy because of the significance the game holds. However, lets see how things play out first because its still very possible that we could lose to Cinci and still get in.

I am going to make a couple of predictions:

    1. Indy will lose at least 2 games yet. In fact, I believe winning or losing the final game against Houston will determine if they make the playoffs or not.

    2. Cinn. after losing to us in Week 16 will HAVE to win in order to have a chance to make the playoffs in the final week of the season.

    3. Cinn and Pitt both make the wild card spots.

Good points, but it could play out another way which would be my favorite. Baltimore loses the next four games and they don't make the playoffs. I watched the Redskins beat the Giants tonight and I don't know if the Ravens can beat either of those two teams. They are both fighting with Dallas to win their division so they both should come to play against the Ravens. Denver will be playing for home field advantage and a first round bye so that should be a tough fight. Cinn. if they only lose to us before the final game of the season will be playing for possibility the last wildcard playoff spot against the Ravens. So it would be winner take all. Again another tough game. So it is, maybe not likely, but definately possibile the Ravens will sit at home and watch the Steelers take some names and kick some butt in the playoffs as they win another SB title. Wouldn't you just feel terrible for our friends in Baltimore if that happened. What a total collapse that would be for them to deal with during the off season. Five straight losses to end what they though was their success season. Couldn't happen to a group of nicer people right.
