Dwyer and Red had a nice game today, but I still think Mendy is Nouri best RB. I hope that he stays, but if not, hopefully we could trade him for a speedy young safety or CB.

Isn't he a RESTRICTED free agent next year? He can't just go ANYWHERE he wants to right? We have to actually permit him to talk to other teams don't we? Isn't it the same with Redman too? Couldn't we theoretically face a scenario where they both leave at the same time?

No. Mendenhall is an Unrestricted FA next year.

Oh. So what teams do you even see making him an offer? I mean do you really think there will be that much of a demand for him? But am I right about Redman though?

I hope he's not done. I still think he's the best back on this team he just needs to knock the rust off and for god sakes Mendy, hold the ball high and tight. I don't think Dwyer or Redman did anything tonight that Mendy couldn't have. I would like to know why Tomlin benches Mendy for poor performance, but Hampton and Wallace continue to get significant playing time. To me, Wallace constantly dropping balls that hit him right in the hands is no better than a RB fumbling. Hampton is getting his playing time off of reputation. He gets pushed around, knocked down (vonte leech destroyed him) far to often compared to McClendon, who comes in and blows things up and actually gets pressure on the QB, but only for a couple plays then its back to Hampton.

I don't see them paying him with 2 other capable backs. Mendy has more speed the Dwyer but we're not a splash play offense anymore, we're a move the chains offense and Dwyer fits that better. He's more of the mold of the Bus and I like that, worked out for us pretty well when he was here.

I somewhat agree, however, Mendy has more ability to catch balls out of the back field. I hope he's done in the burgh but I have a feeling he's not. I'd like to see the Steelers pick up another back in the 3rd round come draft time.

I don't like all that spinning, if he wanted to be a ballerina he should have took up dance and bought a tutu. Now I will give him some slack because he did just came off a major knee job and that usually takes 2 seasons to get back to 100%. ( Except for AP with the Vikings) If he don't want big bucks I say bring him back for a look.

i think alot depends on what dwyer does with the opportunity. will he fall back into his no workout gain weight habit that he has had his whole career? this was a contract year and he decided to workout a month before camp. if he was dedicated to being the top dog, i would feel much better.

i think we draft one at some point in the draft. there is no guarentee that we sign all of them back. remember this was supposed to be redmans breakout , take over as starter year. i hope we don't just dump mendy only to have subpar play from who we keep next year. a decent back can do the job behind a good O-line. if we fix that anyone should be able to run behind them. all of our guys are talented enough to do it.

I have to say if Mendy played we would not have won.

Redman and Dwyer run tough and can run effectively between the tackles. They were able to make the 3rd downs more manageable.

I think if Mendy would have the bulk of the load he might have one or two big runs, but it would have been a lot of 3rd and longs...

I hope Mendy is not done. I haven't forgotten everything he did for the team, prior to his ACL injury. He's the best all around back, on the roster. Hands down.

I dont beleive he is totally done i beleieve Tomlin saves him for the playoffs with certain packages, but i do like the mini BUS!!!!! when Dwyer gets open and runs down field looks like "Bussy" a few pounds lighter that is. Dwyer needs to bulk up his upper body in the off season and he will be a bruiser.

I hope so. Some of those fumbles have definitely attributed to my poor health.

Even if he's done in pittsburgh, it'd be nice to see the fans actually appreciate our players that have carried the ball for us with a bit more thankfulness or respect. Reading a lot of the comments and flat our mean spirited and non-caring comments for Mendy is pretty sad. I agree if he can't perform up to the standards, he should be let go, but damn guys. You are rough for someone that was a king at one time on this team as he was out-performing FWP and got the #1 spot himself.

    Easy going....

Every 3rd down of the night.

    Every series divided by ----
    3rd and less than 5 - 6 of 13
    3rd and 5-10 - 3 of 13
    3rd and more than 10 - 4 of 13

Not as bad as I remembered....but still over half the time we were in 3rd and 5 or longer...and spent more snaps in 3rd and more than 10 than 3rd and 5-10....which means we were going backwards more than forward. Still not as bad as I thought....but not as good as it needs to be.

    3-2-PIT 49 (10:05) 16-C.Batch pass short right to 46-W.Johnson to BAL 48 for 3 yards (31-B.Pollard).

    3-8-BAL 47 (1:03) (Shotgun) 16-C.Batch pass short right to 83-H.Miller to BAL 30 for 17 yards (24-C.Graham).
    3-3-BAL 23 :)43) (Shotgun) 16-C.Batch pass incomplete deep middle to 17-M.Wallace.

Mendenhalls problem is a mental hangover from his ACL surgery and rehab, he told Tomlin something about he fumbled because he is still not a 100% so Tomlin told him fine i'll drop you on the depth chart untill you heal up: Put the trainers on him and get him back in shape and maybe he can return to form: He signed a 5 year contract in 08 for 12.5 million 7.3 million guaranteed, so we dont have a lot invested in him, and he does have pretty good stats since he has been here with over 3300 rushing yards for a 4.1 average and 29 TDs career, he ran a 4.5 forty at the combine and some reports claimed he had run a 4.3 unofficialy, so he does have the quicks to be a game breaker if he can get consistant in his technique: I do think he will get back on the field before this season ends, and he is still a young back with potential and if he can clean up the mental part and become productive, he will get a new contract, but it's all on him to prove he's worth it or not....

Honestly, I've never really cared for Mendenhall.

I'm sure he will find a place in the NFL but as far as being a Steeler, I can't trust that he can hold onto the ball anymore.

I see a lot of non coversions on 3rd. and 3 or 4 ,it seemed the Ravems went blitz and coverage a lot on those...I would like to see that down become a running down or the screen down.....Hopefully when they break down the film they will see we need to switch the calling up some on 3rd. and short....On the flip side if we get 3rd. and 1 ,I would like to see more PA deep passes....

i think they go into next year with Dwyer, Redman, Rainey and Batch. MendY is a restricted free agent and maybe they can get some picks for him.

i do like Mendy, but at some point they need to make a decision. Mendy has big play ability, but like FWP they dont come very often and he seems to have more negative runs than positive. i know thats not the case, but it seems that way. if they had a great oline Mendy would be great, but since the oline isnt great and it wont be again next year Mendy is not the best fit.

Dwyer and Redman both can break tackles and turn moses into big gaines. look at the td Dwyer had. Mendy doesnt do that. also the big run Redman had. Mendy gets hit and he goes down. he is a finess runner. he needs holes to run through. Dwyer and Redman dont.

Not to muddy the debate with facts...but he holds onto the ball better than any of the backs.

    Mendenhall - 922 touches - 9 fumbles ----1 fumble every 102 touches
    Redman - 300 touches - 5 fumbles ----1 fumble every 60 touches
    Dwyer - 154 touches - 2 fumbles ------1 fumble every 77 touches

Subtract the Browns game that got Mendy benched and its 918 touches and 7 fumbles ....and its 1 in 131

He had a bad game...it happens.....FYI Mike Wallace fumbles 1 out of 45 touches

I disagree....2nd and short go deep...3rd and short...MOVE THE CHAINS! If we need 1...get 2. Keep the ball...and move the chains.

Don't kill your own drives. I understand the idea...get them all up in the box and go over the top....but I sayh put a hat on hat...and give the ball to Redman and let him do what you have been telling us all for years he can do.
