Well, Belichick won six and he’s a defensive coach. But, he had Josh McDaniels who was a highly esteemed offensive coordinator even though that hasn’t translated to success with the Raiders. Tomlin’s not going anywhere, I acknowledge that, so it’s imperative the the Steelers find the brightest offensive mind they can to help take this offense full of talented, yet raw, players to the next level.

EDIT: Did a quick check and since 2010, Bill Belichick is the only HC with a DC background to win the Super Bowl. The other ten came up on the offensive track other than Harbaugh who was a special teams coach in the NFL but did coach DBs at one point. So much for recency bias.

How do you get that from how I responded? Of course it means something. For the most part over the last decade we haven’t been that competitive in the playoffs.

Well I got it from 2 things you said.

    Screenshot_20221107_000718_Chrome.jpg

one breath you want to see us go deep in the playoffs. And I pointed out 3 seasons all back to back to back. And you put it down.

I could be very wrong about you. But I think the only way you're going to be happy is a ring every 5ish years. Because 3 Good seasons, followed by good post season, you made excuses.

In fact I almost want to ask you does regular season man nothing to you? You clearly stated deep post seasons only means something to you (yet ignored that in the next comment).

I'm the kind of guy who would still go seat with Tomlim at the pub telling him how he's a top 5 coach, thanking him for a ring (because it's crazy hard to get), how 6 post seasons have been fun to watch, 2 great seasons (with post season fails), how he took at 3rd in the division with sub .500 and turned them into #1 in the division his first year. Abs not afraid to mention he's probably looking at his first losing season in 15 years. And that's all very very impressive. 25 teams would die to have the success we have had in 15 years. And as I've said previously all teams would die to have the success we have had except maybe niners (and unless someone has only been following patriots recent success and ignored their past).

I missed Carroll who was a DC, my bad. And I thought Coughlin had a DC background but he was an OC in college and coached WRs in the NFL and was a coaching assistant to Bill Parcells.

Okay, maybe we’re misunderstanding each other. I’m simply saying that over the last decade we have, for the most part, been abysmal in the playoffs and I cited several playoff games to support that assertion. The two seasons you circled in red support my claim. In 2011 we lost to Tim Tebow, the only playoff game he ever won before his lack of talent caught up with him. In 2020 we fell behind the Browns 28-0 in the first quarter at home! Those were abysmal performances. And I don’t consider the 2017 post season good when we got manhandled by Blake Bortles and the Jags before a late comeback made it appear to be closer than it was. What am I missing here? And you are wrong about me. I don’t want a ring every 5 years. I want a ring every year…so sue me. I know that’s not realistic but I am disappointed with the team’s performance over the last several years and I would like us to show a little fight when we do get into the post season, which we haven’t done of late.

2010 the cut off, but not 08. I understand what you're saying is it's turned into OC as HC. But.
    1. Why's it so hard for you to give Tomlin any credit? Just saying
    2. Have you forgot some of these teams had a strong defense......
    - 20 Tampa held KC to 9 points.
    - 18 was a defense game (many said boring. But that's because they didn't know what they were watching)
    - 15 Denver had a great defense who was literally one player away. Which was having a decent QB (we all saw what tebow did with them). And they ended up with an amazing QB. But I'm here to tell you mid tier QB would have won that game.
    - 13' Seattle.... legend of boom don't ring a bell?
    - 12' Baltimore Upshaw, Lewis, reid, suggs we're no joke.

So I can say it's 50/50 now. However if they keep doing rules harder on defense, yes it'll change in the next decade of tipping the scales to offense.

I don't consider Terry bradshaw in my top two QB's for the steelers. But I'm not going to act like he was nothing.

And I'm very sure you and would argue until the sun came up when you hear who I put at #2.

And for the record I'm not upset with you, I apologize if I have come off that way.
That's how you see it with Tomlin. I wish you didn't, and i made the best case i could. Majority of teams don't have the success Tomlin has where 6 of his post seasons Were good ones. Therefore that makes me very happy

Shoot, let’s go back to mid 90s. By my count, 14 of the 20 Super Bowl winning coaches since 1995, 70%, had offensive coaching backgrounds before becoming head coaches. That trend seems to be continuing and increasing.

It’s all good…I’m not upset with you either. Nothing wrong with some robust debate. And I don’t hate Tomlin. I think he’s been a decent coach but not a great coach. I think the team has largely underperformed. But he’s not going anywhere so I hope he can right the ship.

But as for Neil O’Donnell being your #2 QB behind Ben…really Mash???;):roflmao:

Yeah its on the up tick ever since the 32 expansion. However I'm not all in on. Going for OC as a HC yet. Defense has worked crazy amazing for us 50 years. And right now is 50/50. So the coach after Tomlin, I say go with an OC.

the reason you like Bradshaw is for post season. While i look at the season to what gets us into a post season. I take it all in.

Also I wrote up a nice piece about tomlin being a #5 in active coaches. If you didn't see it, I'll find it tomorrow and tag you.

Speculate much? Pure talent perspective? I swear to god you semd your free time dreaming up crap to bash the Steelers. We didn’t get beat by Tebow despite your claims for over a freaking decade. We got beat by the Denver broncos. You seem to forget the broncos had a very good defense and a very good running game. While we had a once very good defense, but it was definitely an aging defense. It was also a team decimated by injuries in that game. Big snack, keisel, Woolley, Clark, starks, mendy…Heck ben played, but with a high ankle sprain. Why do you always dismiss what the players have to say? Players say all the time about how it’s their job to be prepared. Yet somehow you and your ilk deem that not to be true. It’s truly impressive how you dismiss multiple interceptions as if it’s no big deal. Doesn’t make any difference at all.

We haven’t had a losing season since 2003. A losing season looks like very much the possibility this year and some fans are freaking the **** out. Yeah they are soft and ungrateful and spoiled and unrealistic and entitled.

Yeah, I guess being a UCONN alum and fan has toughened me. UCONN is 5-5, and I feel like it’s a borderline championship season to have a chance to be bowl eligible for the first time since 2015. It’s the difference between going to a game expecting to lose vs. being surprised and pissed when we lose.

People cry about games from over a decade ago on a weekly basis. Soft fits perfectly. Tebow will be living rent free in your heads until your last breath. Your finalwords will be some combination of Tebow and Tomlin. Crotchety old man without a tooth in his head whining about Tim mother loving Tebow

Curious as to who your 1-2 are for QB. Most would say Bradshaw and Benny boy. If I'm guessing it's between Kordell and Neil???

Who gives a F about losing seasons? Is the goal not to win a championship?? We have been irrelevant in that regard for over a decade and have finally hit rock bottom. Fans have every right to complain about the direction of this organization. Tell me one thing that makes you think we will be true contenders in the next 5 years? Certainly isn’t the leadership of the organization from top to bottom. You guys cry about all the complaining yet do you realize how foolish you look thinking things are fine and dandy? It’s literally the meme of the dog drinking coffee in the burning building “everything is fine”

We are statistically the worst team in the NFL. Wake up!!
