I thought the best they could do was maybe a third, I knew they wasn't going to get a McCaffrey type of deal for him though.

So you were wrong. San Fran picks could be like last 5 of the round.

Bears suck so the 2nd could be very high. They could’ve negotiated with all parties and probably got a 2nd and 4th which is close to the McCaffrey deal.

I always said I could see him getting a late 1st or 2nd at the very least. Anything less isn’t worth it. I’d take the potential high to mid 2nd and call it a day. Take the odds of Bears sucking vs trying to get an additional pick.

So I approve this trade. Now we just need to lose out and we can potentially fix this mess.

Maybe it took JuJu moving on for Chase to grow up a little.

This is an awesome deal. We get a higher pick than the one we took Claypool with, AND get rid of a player who was a locker room cancer? If we want to do anything in the next few years to build a winner, you don't have dudes with the mentals that Claypool has. Dont need any diva, problematic #3 receivers. At least AB was the best in the game... and he was barely worth it.

I’m ok with this deal. I think this clearly signals that the FO is not delusional about our chances to recover from 2-6 this season.

Have to disagree. Claypool was #1 on my "dont let the door hit you in the @$$" camp. I want to see our team culture of the mid 2000's come back. Hard working team, more team focused, mentally tough.... Claypool is the poster child for everything that ISNT that. If we want to build THAT again (which I do), then there is 0 room for Claypool on the roster. We had 0 reason to keep him with Pickens getting more involved and DJ under contract. We can add another Cotchery type from FA to the roster to compete with Boykin and Austin for targets and let Sims be there for emergency WR duties and KR/PR specialist. Gunner can save us 2 million for getting the scissors too. We can find a way to have over 50 million in cap, a top 10 pick and 2 top 10 picks in the second round? Love it. Just make sure we get the picks right and bring in the right FA's.

'Muth is great. Claypool is target #4 anyways and we got a potential top 40 pick for him (at least top 50). Sounds like a win to me.

As long as we dont tank on purpose (as that breeds losing culture within a team), Im good with the rest. I would only have made this deal for an overpay, and this is exactly that. The Bears pick will likely be 45th or better. Just get the pick right now.

Metallica from '94 to '03 blew chunks. I'll agree with that. Enter Sandman and Black album is overplayed. 80's Metallica was f*cling epic. Kill em All, Ride the Lightning, Master of Puppets and.....and Justice for All were like Steelers first 4 Super Bowls.

Cotchery was a kickass WR when he was a Steelers. Damn good FA acquisition for the Steelers.

Kickass? Claypool had better stats in 2.5 years vs Cotchery in 3.

Much like Claypool they never used Cotchery correctly. They finally threw the ball his way his last year and he had 10 tds then gone.

For all the people on the fence about this. Claypool is now motivated so for about 3-5 weeks it will look like the Steelers were stupid. Then once Claypool gets some praise he will go back to not caring and working on his brand. In the end everyone will see how bad of a deal the Bears got. Claypool will be a cancer in their locker room. Guaranteed

Nolan Smith. A top OLB who may slip right to us at this high 2nd round position due to an injury. He and Watt would make a formidable tandem

Chase Claypool is a beast for a WR... the problem is... his route running is awful and Pickens (who will take over his spot) is a much better receiver. Plus... I want to create as much "Pickett to Pickens" connection as possible. Throw in a very high 2nd Rd pick... and the Steelers could have 3 of the top 40 players in the draft. Top rated LT, highly rated RT, and CB. Then we go best ILB available in the 3rd Rd and then defense the rest of the way. And don't forget... we, most likely, will get Austin III next year too. Hell yes.

Mason is still available. No reason not to plus up the 7th round as well.

I saw it reported that the Pack was offering a 3rd and the Bears swooped in and got him for a 2nd, unfortunately for Claypool. Much better to have Rodgers throwing to him than Fields.
