If the Steelers inept coaching staff utilizes Jackson correctly then this will be considered a steal for the Steelers.

He’ll probably sit a while like Joseph did and then use sparingly if at all.

Tomlin has input. The GM makes the call. That’s the way it has always been even under Cowher.

yeah, they always wanted him and took Burns as a knee jerk reaction. For the first year, when Jackson was hurt and Burns was decent, it looked good. Now, the irony of it all!~

They literally got rid of an OC because of Cowher.

Cowher and Tomlin had/have a lot more say than you are giving them credit for.

Colbert forged a good working relationship with both, they shared the same philosophies on building a roster and the kinds of players to draft. I bet you Colbert never forced a player on Cowher or Tomlin.

My question did the Steelers get better with this player or is he just what we already have?

So he hasn't played since Week 5 because of a Back injury?

We get a decent corner and swap a 6th in 2025 for a 7th in 2025 and steeler fans are complaining. Makes no damn sense

edit forgot the part that it’s a conditional pick to boot.

So y’all are bitching and moaning about trading for a player and losing a conditional 6th round pick in 2025. Let that sink in. Y’all are bitching and moaning over a conditional 6th round pick in 2025

I think you meant GM (slash Director of Football Operations), right? Assuming your referencing Donahoe.

This pretty much sums it up. The Steelers can easily absorb the $3MM for the rest of this year (they had ~$7MM), which is effectively a tryout for next year. The major point of one's concern I suppose would be whether or not you trust them to analyze Jackson's usefulness within their system come 2023. At that point they likely restructure if they want to keep him. This will take some of the bite out of his cap hit (which actually goes north of $12.7MM with his per game roster bonus), but will still be a not inconsiderable amount of money for a 30+ CB with some question marks on his past performance and medical history.

If nothing else, with this trade they are at least acknowledging that this secondary is below average and needs help. Hopefully he is serviceable, and they can draft a young corner next year and cut bait with some of the dead weight they have now.

If he sucks the rest of this season, then he probably won't return in 2023.

I could well be making this us but wasn’t Jackson rumoured as the target pick the year we ended up taking Artie Burns? Or is my memory way off…?

Admittedly I’ve not followed his career but I hope this isn’t factored by our pre-draft notes from years gone by over what he’s actually done since.
