They knew they wasn't going to re-sign him, if a team offers you a second rounder you take it.

You believed that nonsense that a team was going to offer a McCaffrey type of deal for Claypool .

No, that's not what I heard. They wanted OUR 7th round pick to take him.
So, I'll ask this again what I asked in another post, do the Steelers need to abandon their "best player available" ancient MO or concentrate on specific areas of need? I'd like to get excited about the draft but can't with the current regime and their history of talent acquisition. JMO>

If he was truly a cancer in the locker room this is addition by subtraction. It would have been awesome to see him develop into the player they envisioned, but clearly the Steelers felt he wouldn’t

Don’t make me pull up the receipts. You didn’t think we could get a 2nd. Let alone a high 2nd.

Seems like a necessary evil because they need the draft picks but as has been said, not a great thing to take away a weapon from Pickett and an inept offense.
The part I find amusing is that some of the people here applauding this trade are the same ones endlessly screaming from the mountain tops about how this organization and Tomlin have botched so many draft picks, putting the Steelers in this position to begin with. Is there an optimism bug going around I don't know about? Doesn't fit the narrative around here lately.

He's probably still on the team because Austin is on IR.

It could mean more targets for Pickens.

Their track record for drafting CBs is terrible, maybe we can get Joey Porter Jr. :hehehe:.

Best wishes to Claypool. It didn't work out here, but I hope he goes on to have a good career.

As for the trade, I love it. I didn't think the Steelers would get anything more than a 3rd for him. An early 2nd is crazy.

Yep, against the eagles he Pickens only had 3 targets, and zero catches.

They might need to draft two OL within those 3 picks.

Would Tomlin or his coaching staff be able to develop him?,, They haven't developed one yet

I don't think it's Tomlin call to get rid of Canada, the Steelers don't fire coaches during the season that's probably how Art ll wants to run things, they like to wait until the coaches contract expire.

Got back the round he was drafted in. They were not going to resign him anyway.

Weidl will use the first 3 picks on the trenches. If we get a higher 1st maybe trade down and grab some more picks.

Hopefully they DON'T draft a corner high. Go out and get a stud FA corner to plug in right away.

Sutton who they drafted is a solid CB, not a #1 CB but good versatile player, they developed Hilton who was a UDFA and he got paid. Nelson and Haden two free agents played well with the Steelers .

    I’m 50-50 with this move.

He had a great rookie year with production whilst dominating on ST duties too.

Dropped off Y2 and frustrating to watch as we all can see his high ceiling potential.

Has been the pick of the bunch in recent weeks from a dire team Y3.

The confusing point for me is that we’re letting go of someone with a huge amount of upside. And when we’ve disappointed as much as we have as a collective, is it fair to judge Claypool’s progress on him alone without factoring the coaching influence behind him.

IMO his potential hasn’t changed, he’s just not had the environment to get him to that next level consistently.

Those stud FA CBs cost a lot of money, look at the Chargers they signed JC Jackson to big money, he was struggling big time before he got injured.
