There is no single greatest Steelers D player as each position is different and so many great players over the decades. I will say this. Joe was the best at his position to this date.

Was MJG the greatest defensive Steeler ever????

Yes, and it isn’t even close.

Was he the best defensive player the steelers ever had???? Probably not and definitely debatable.

Lambert- Carson’s Defense ( Foundation of the now named Tampa-2 ) centered on and relied upon Lamberts Ability to not only mentally digest the offense and either stop the run or drop into deep coverage and defend the pass!!

Ham- Best Steeler OLB ever In Run
    support and pass defense.

Blount- The first and greatest shut down corner ever. He not only ruled the secondary BUT also changed the game.

Troy- The most exciting safety ever who was probably the Most difficult defensive player for OC’s to game plan for.

Watt- In just a few short years he’s Proven his value and he Absolutely changes games and no one can stop him, but injury’s can.

Mean Joe Green- He started it All. He set the tone on the field AND in the Locker room. He was a Leader Among Leaders, The Man among great men. He dominated the LOS and destroyed opponents OL, and every one Knows it ALL starts at the LOS!! When nerve damage to his left arm left him weakened and half the player he previously was he still commanded respect from opposing players. Did the other members of The Famed Steel Curtain help cover-up his weakened arm and reduced ability to Dominate ? Yes, but that’s part of his greatness, playing wounded and having his co-DL gel, come together and dominate as a Team.

Yes, MJG Is the Greatest!!! Period

I just find it amusing that you think you were making a good point there.

How is he looking so far this year?

Not so fun fact at the end of this season, TJ Watts 6th season, the Steelers will have won exactly the same amount of playoff games as if you were the starting OLB making minimum wage. 0

I posted his stats in the other thread and notice you haven’t given a response. Hmmmm maybe Obi isn’t the all pro you portrayed him to be.

Yes JG the best ever. Many close 2nds. Mel, Rod, Troy, Lambert, Harrison, ect.

Greene, Mel, Rod, and Troy were exceptional talents that could play in any era.

Lambert might have a tougher time in today's spread NFL game. Harrison was a late bloomer.

Go with the original player that set the tone for the 70s Steelers. My 2nd pick would be Troy. He was probably the best player on 3 Super Bowl participating teams 2005, 2008, 2010.

Been a Steelers fan many years and love it. That D together were dynamic, but don’t forget they played a way different game back then. What we call Smash Mouth Football. Not today.

By all means, show us the post in which I portrayed him as an All-Pro. I'll give you a hint. It doesn't exist. My argument was that you looked foolish claiming that he wouldn't be on the roster for the opener and I was right. Now do us all a favor and stop dragging your failed arguments to other threads. I will be happy to continue throttling you on the Ogunjobi thread.

Smash mouth is right. In Superbowl IX Bradshaw was 9-14 for 96 yards but the Steelers ran for 250 yards, 158 from Franco.

    No

    But the game is different

I saw games when Joe Greene spent a large chunk of time in the backfield and they didn’t need LBs to help

This is the first time in his six years he has suffered a major injury, it's the NFL players are going to get injured sometimes.

Well it’s likely not going to get better as he gets more wear and tear on his body. His brother pretty much broke down.

It wasn't caught on camera, but Howard claims it happened. Joe punched the same guy the next year in a playoff game, and I have seen that footage several times. But I can no longer find it.

Here's a story from The Washington Post about both incidents:

Mean Joe should be #1, but Troy was game breaking and not sure why, but I genuinely think TJ will get 15 sacks+ even playing 1/2 a season. Also Rod Woodson may be a top 5 CB all time.
