So, I just finished a yacht delivery from Dana Point to Olympia, WA and met the owner for the first time when we got here. Turns out, he’s originally from Pittsburgh (20 miles East) and is a huge Steelers fan! We talked football, Pittsburgh Dad, Fake Mike Tomlin, Primanti Bros……. We fans truly are everywhere!

It always cracks me up when announcers say Steelers fans travel well. Most of us moved out of state back when the Steel Mills all shut down. We don't really have to travel well. We're already there.

My family is a prime example of Steeler fans everywhere. As noted above those damn Mills closed down and folks had to move away. Huge exodus out of the Burgh back then. Then we raised families and we made sure they were black and gold.

For my family all still love Steelers and Penguins but the younger ones want no part of the Pirates and I sure understand why.

Originally from Edinburgh, Scotland but emigrated to Calgary, Canada in '71 and been a Steelers' fan since around '73.
Currently in La Paz, B.C.S. for a few months winter escape.

As an aside, on my soccer team's (Heart of Midlothian) message board there are a couple of fellow Steelers who live in Edinburgh.

Lots of NFL and Steelers fans here in Ireland, and across Europe. It’s growing very quickly and becoming a global game. I’ve been a fan for many years but guys I grew up with who never had an interest are now am watching it and getting hooked.

Because of the time difference the games on the 1pm and 4pm slots on Sundays start here at 6pm and 9pm respectively. There is no real competition from other sports at those times so the NFL is pushing an open door so to speak

Glad my dad didn't live to see what became of his beloved Bucs. It would have broken his heart.

I was at a conference a few weeks ago in Dallas.
I began my talk by saying “as a lifelong Steelers fan, I never thought my first trip to the US would be Dallas… and now that I’ve alienated the audience, I’ll begin…”

It turned out though that there were far more Steelers fans/former Burgh natives than Cowboys fans! I credit that for the talk going well lol

Steelers fans are definitely all over the country I lived in South Carolina awhile back and there were tons of us down there and Steelers bars as well. I credit it to two things: Pittsburghs economy forced many people to move for jobs when the mills and mines closed and many people are front runners. Steelers were a dynasty in the 70s and have 6 total SBs.

Yep. Grew up playing the game and loving the game, the Bucs in particular. But after it became obvious to me that they weren't trying and only stealing my money...sometime around 2002-04....I checked out. I actually hate them now and take great joy at how bad they suck, and wish they'd move the team. Anchorage Alaska would be my preference. And rather than become a fair weather fan of another team, I've abandoned following the sport altogether. In fact, I hope the whole league folds.

I love the stadium and view but I really can’t understand why people keep buying tickets? The Pirates have to be one of the worst professional franchises in all of sports.

I am a die-hard baseball fan, I will always love the pirates, but I agree it's very frustrating to watch them lose 100 games a year and then trade away all their talent and get nothing in return!

Sure understand but if the Steelers started sucking for years and years I wouldn't turn my back on them.

The way MLB is set up it is impossible for the Pirates to be good. 30 million dollar teams cannot compete with 200 million dollar teams. The owner of the Pirates is a businessman not a baseball man. He makes a killing with revenue sharing. Even if someone else bought the Pirates he'd have zero incentive to spend money on real baseball players.

Out of respect for what they meant to me during my youth I don't turn my back on them but I cannot for the life of me wonder why Pittsburgh people go to the games. I'd never give that A-hole another penny.

There's a difference between sucking and not trying to field a competitive team
