I don’t see why they’d pull Trubisky for that. Diontae was objectively awful in that first half.

I read that earlier. I don’t know that I would dispute that the argument occurred. However, it wouldn’t surprise me one bit if Dulac embellished a bit with the it led to Tomlin benching trubisky. Just not buying that part at all.

I hardly think one has anything to do with the other.

Johnson only ended up with 4 targets that game, that includes after Pickett came in so maybe that part of the story is true.

The rest, I don’t by so much.

Yeah, big nothing burger being given light that it does not deserve.

Seems they had already decided to make the switch. It's not like the coaches were sitting there going, "Woah! Dionte is really mad at Mitch!" "We better sit Mitch for Pickett now!"

If Dulac is reporting it, then it probably didn't happen the way it's being reported.

Usually your right about Dulac, but he surprised everyone and shocked me when he picked the Steelers to win yesterday.

Is DJ getting double teamed? Likely getting their best DBs. I heard on the Drive they said the regular nickel corner was out, so the guy guarding Chase was a back up. Thus, there could be reasons for the distribution of passes.

I think it's much ado about nothing. Arguments happen all the time between teammates. I know it is being reported by some outlets that the dust up was the reason why Pickett got the ball in the second half, but I believe Ray Fittipaldo said he hadn't heard where it had anything to do with why Pickett was inserted in the second half. I think it was on Maddens show where he played a snippet of Dj being asked how he though Mitch handled the demotion and how he responded yesterday, and he was very complimentary of him and said he wasn't surprised at all that he played a great half of football. The sports media love controversies.

I could see Tomlin benching him for that reason, then using the excuse "we needed a spark" by playing Pickett the 2nd half

Dulac never said Mitch was benched due to the argument. He said there was an argument, after which Mitch was benched. I admit he wants readers to read between the lines for entertainment value, but he never actually came to any conclusion about why Mitch was benched.

Assuming it was a big blow out, it wouldn't shock me if it weighed on the coaches. If they were already losing faith in Mitch, perhaps Mitch losing the locker room was the final nail in the coffin. Who knows.

I also think this looks bad on DJ. Mitch sucks, we know that, but DJ didn't do him any favours either. Plus it's still early in the year. He needs to keep his cool and can't be fighting with his QB every time there's bumps in the road. Between that and him fighting with fans, he's got some serious growing up to do.

DJ had no business arguing about his targets when he dropped half of them

DJ looks like an awful extension at this point. Classic example of a guy who thinks he is way better than he actually is.

DJ was signed at the correct price for his production that he previously put on tape. Let's hope
he can start putting that production on the field this year.

DJ has made a couple nice catches and has shown flashes of being pretty good.
I would hope things can be hammered out and Pickett/Trubisky can tap into those skills.
At the time, Mitch was under a lot of heat as he was just awful in those first games... 45/50 yards in the first half and even less in the run game will get you benched.
If DJ is not focusing, that is a problem. Sometimes, the answer is to get a player like him the ball early on to get him in the game mode.

All phases need to be firing for this team to win.

It was totally foolish to extend him without knowing if he could establish a rapport with his new QB's.... No QB on the team has established the connection with DJ that Ben had with him..... Even the yr Ben went down, the most productive wr was James Washington.... The F.O. had that history to look at, and still gave him big money just to watch our newest qb's have better connections with Pickens and Claypool

Given what WRs are going for these days, I don't think that extension really hurts all that much. He's good, but maybe not great.
