I'd consider trading TJ Watt - We need a full rebuild

You know what SDOT. You are taking your usual beating here. But the question you ask is fair. The answer is No. But it's still a reasonable discussion to have.

If I thought the Steelers were completely devoid of talent, I would consider trading Watt. I get it. It's a lot of draft picks, and JJ is hurt all the time so people are worried TJ will be as well.

But this team is not devoid of talent. I am not even willing to throw in the towel on the 22 season yet. I like where the Steelers are talent wise. Pickett has showed some real promise IMO. Ditto for Pickens. There is a lot to be optimistic about going into 23 IMO. Getting rid of Watt would be silly for a team that should be a lot better next year.

We are so behind on talent and depth it's insane. Watt goes down and we can't do anything. I watch that terrible game last night. Skins got no Chase Young and a bunch of nobodies and all over Fields. Held them twice in goal lines situations. We are going to find out this weekend with our depleted secondary. You aren't willing to throw in the towel on this season!? Optimistic for what next year?? We got so many holes. O-line, LBs, DBs, d-line, etc. This cannot be fixed in 1-2 years.

Going to trade the most knowledgable person on here?? That's not very smart.

Some players we should be looking at in the draft for this rebuild.

LoL....they were playing the Bears, and they are not on 2nd , and 3rd stringers on their whole secondary.

A rebuild can take 1-2 years if you hit on your draft picks, and sign the right free agents.

Washington has like 4-5 first round picks on their DL, even without Chase Young.

I agree with you about depth. But there is most definitely talent here. I believe Pickett is going to be good. Same goes for Pickens and Austin. Its well documented what I think of DJ. The line is much improved already. The Steelers now have 2 good running backs and the TE room is also looking pretty impressive. If the Steelers can get the right coaching in place, (yes this is a huge if) I think this has the makings of a very good offense.

Defensively you have a core of Minkah, Heyward, Highsmith, Jack, and Watt. If the Steelers can keep adding pieces through the draft and free agency, and again if they can get the right coaching in place, I think they can at least be better than average.

Right now this team is so banged up. No team is going to win when their entire starting secondary is out. I am not giving up on the 22 season because I have been a fan long enough to know that anything can happen. If this defense gets healthy as the offense starts to click I still believe they can make a run.

    keep watt
    Goodness he’s all we got

We are going to get the first pick this year.

as much as I would like to draft the kid from kentucky (Levis)
    We ain’t
We probably got our qb already

Let’s trade down a few notches for a bunch of picks this year
Rebuild the o and d lines
    And we will b fine.

You can rebuild really quickly if you have good draft position and cap space. Bengals wants from the top of the draft to playing in the Super Bowl in two years, SF did it in one season a few years ago.

Trading away one of the best players in the league in his prime makes no sense.

There may be a case for shopping older high earners like Cam Heyward who won’t be with the team that much longer anyway, especially if they get an offer from a contender.

With the mess this team is in it's a fair question and IMO should be considered. If the Steelers could swing a trade that grabs them a 1 & 2 pick in this draft I'm all for it. I'm no cap expert and there is not one here either so I can't speak to what can and can't be done with money. Why some people just can't handle others opinions and thoughts and go straight to personal attacks while adding ZERO to the actual subject is a head scratcher.

The Raiders already tried that with Mack to the Bears. How did that workout for the 1-4 Raiders?

Good example, they traded away one of the best players in the league and wasted every draft pick they got in return. Bad business

It's a fair question, but the OP didn't even think of things such as the dead money cap hit. He also has a long history of making ridiculous suggestions, whether it is because he actually thinks they make sense or he just wants to stir things up. Either way, that is a factor in his reaction.

Regarding your suggestion, did you mean to trade Watt and only get one first-round pick and one second-rounder? No, that would not be worth considering for one of the top 10 players in the NFL and arguably the best defensive player in the league.

He is on the sideline more than our previous pass rushing specialist’s. He taps out a lot.

Great example. Mack has never been the same or been that much of a factor since. Gruden was turning the Raiders around until he caught a stray from the Snyder emails. Raiders have the last playoff appearance…

But I did say this probably doesn’t work with Tomlin wasting draft picks.

Fans always overvalue their players, natural thing to do... You are not getting two 1st rounders for him. I don't care if he thought of dead money and what not. If we can get compensation that will put more talent on the team you are against it?

Raiders definitely won the trade on paper but Mack was great for the Bears the following couple of years before a few injuries slowed him down.

If Gruden was turning the Raiders around (very debatable) it certainly wasn’t because they traded Khalil Mack. They were decent because they put a good line around Carr and got lucky with some late draft picks like Crosby and Rendfrow. They couldn’t pay the guys on the line in the end and it was going to unravel regardless of Snyder’s emails.

Players like TJ are what you are looking for when you pick in the draft. About half of the players selected in the first round don’t work out. Why would you trade away a guaranteed commodity for a coin flip? It makes no sense

Even if you got 2 1st rounders you most likely are not putting more talent in the field
