I'd consider trading TJ Watt - We need a full rebuild

First off, answer this. Do you see us being a Super Bowl contender in 2-3 years? Yes - We have too many holes to fill. O-line, d-line, LBs, and DBs. Question marks at TE and RB. That's going to take us past Watts prime. No - Having Watt is a waste. As we've seen Watt helps us win pointless games that ruins our draft position.

Watt injuries are real. This is TJs 6th season. His brother was injured in his 6th season as well. Missed all of his 7th. He was elite his 8th season with 16 sacks. Then averages 3-4 sacks a year his last 4 seasons. So we might get 1 or 2 more elite seasons from TJ imo.

TJs stock is as high as it will ever be. DMVP. We could probably get a teams 1st in 2023, 1st in 2024, and a 2nd. We have to not win pointless games this year as well.

Also, Highsmith has played well this year even without TJ.

So we'd have two 1st in 2023 and 2024. We can trade back and get more draft capital. I don't like any of the QBs this year. Get Jurkovec late round and go into next season with Pickett, Jurkovec, and maybe a veteran QB for cheap. Then we can see what we got in Pickett. If there's a Burrow like QB in 2024 or 2025 we would have the draft capital to get them.

Obviously trading TJ will blow up the locker room. Maybe we can finally get rid of Tomlin and this whole coaching staff and get some real football minds in. Maybe we can finally switch to a 4-3 defense. Trade deadline..

Heyward - to a contender for whatever
Mitch or Rudolph - anybody for whatever
    Claypool - 2nd, 3rd, or 4th
    Edmunds - anybody for whatever

We've wasted draft capital over the years trying to make it work in Ben's window. Now we are severely behind in development in a lot of crucial positions. We need to blow this up and get a full rebuild. We could be Super Bowl contenders in 3-4 years if we draft properly. That's the only way some of you geezers will see another Super Bowl. Because this current plug and play is got us on track for 10-15 years. Going to take 2-3 years to fix the o-line. 2-3 years to find out if Pickett is legit. Then we are going to be doing a full rebuild in 4-5 years anyways. I'd do it now while we have one of the best defensive players that could get us a really good return.

You obviously know nothing about money. Dead Cap space this year would be over 72million if traded.

When you find a player so good he excels on Tomlin’s team, you keep him.

I'm looking for us to be a contender again sometime soon.

What about after this year? I didn't even look at dead cap tbh.

The difference with him on the field compared to it with him off it should be enough to not even have this discussion.

Until I realized how to fix this mess since nobody else is doing anything.

Winning pointless games that ruins our draft position?

How often is that. When the time off the field exceeds the time on the field it doesnt help. I have a time machine but it is broke.

In addition to not understanding the potential dead money situation, you also apparently forgot that he is signed beyond this season.

I stated in another thread..The Steelers have NEVER won a game TJ has not played in ( under Tomlin had to edit lol ) ...I think that should answer your question

I see my error. I assumed too much of you.

You claimed that it wasn't worth holding on to him to help them win meaningless games, the implication being that 2022 is a lost season. I agree that it is a lost season, but Watt is signed beyond 2022, so he will be able to play meaningful games for the Steelers again.

You might want to qualify that. They did win a game or two (or more) before he was drafted. They even won four Super Bowls before he was born. :hehehe:

You ignored the whole part about injury history with his brother as well? His brother was injured in his 6th season as well. Didn't play all the 7th and 8th was his last elite level year. So we might get 1-2 really good years out of TJ if he follows his brother. Which he has injury and stat wise.

0-8 without the guy..... since 2017 when he doesn't start or play

might be 0-16 over a season if he's traded away...

He is untradeable due to his giant contract as well as his two major injuries with his torn pec and knee surgery. Unfortunately he now has the reputation of being fragile to go along with the massive cap hit.

How many playoff wins? Sounds like pointless wins to me ruining our draft position and saving Tomlin's job.

I don't think his contract would be an issue. He took a hometown deal all things considered. I did forget and not factor how the Steelers front load their contracts and the dead money. So maybe this off-season?

Hometown deal? 4 years $112 million? I don't know the cap hit but I imagine it's massive and any team that traded for him would need to eat it.

I'm focusing on your claim regarding meaningless games, one of the many ways your argument has showed your ignorance and inability to see the entire picture.

The risk if injury is part of the equation, but that is also why his value probably isn't all that high right now. It is a moot point, anyway, due to the dead money cap hit.
