We lost our American Eskimo of 13 yrs in Jan to cancer. I cried like a baby for weeks. Actually, have tears running down my face now.... I swore I would never had another one until the morning I got up, told myself she WAS NOT laying in the bathroom floor, then turned on the light and STILL waited for her to move. We got a new one and as much as I still miss the other one, she s filled a hole in our lifes. People who dont have pets will never understand the joy they give and the hurt they cause when something happens to them. To me, its just as much as an acceptable excuse to not play as it was for Ben and his sons birth.

As far as the points, I d take the 9.5 points. I think we will see a different Steeler team this week.

Sorry to keep the pet discussion going but I think food is a big problem also. I only fed my dog Abady (http://therobertabadydogfoodcoltd.com/) and he was as healthy as could be. He was never sick and his coat and skin were perfect. He weighed 92 pounds and only needed 1 cup of food a day because the food doesn't have any fillers.

It was expensive (about $85 a month) but it was worth every penny.

No need to ever apologize for continuing a discussion concerning pets. It seems as if most of the people posting on this thread would like to talk about pets more than people. That works for me. I've been that way for most of my 68 years, ever since I got old enough to figure out what is important and what is not important as you go through life. Who ever said it doesn't get any easier is spot on. I've gone through the loss of a pet (one of my family) 18 times and it is as painful now as it was when I lost the first one. At the end of the day, after you lose a loved one, one of the only comforts is in knowing you gave the pet the best possible life you could. And when it was time for them to pass on you helped them do so with as much love and dignity as possible. I still have to go through that pain at least seven more times, or more, if I take in any more stray animals. But the enjoyment and love from them makes that eventual pain worth while.

I lost mine in January this year too. My birthday is on the 6th and we lost her on the 9th. I knew it was coming but the way it happened was weird. I was sitting on the couch watching Andy Griffith and we had just finished supper and she was sitting on my lap and all of a sudden her body contorted in this weird way and she opened her mouth really wide and just went sorta limp and I paused the tv and my wife asked what was wrong and I told her Lucy was dying. I don't know why but I just knew it was the end. I called my buddy that's the vet and told him it was time for Lucy to go and he met us over there at about 10:30 at night and didn't charge us a dime. But I honestly had to get down and pray for the strength to go and do it because even though I knew she was suffering I just couldn't let her go. But once she was gone I was sad but I was also relieved because I knew that she didn't hurt anymore. I think that's basically the point you have to reach before you can have your dog put down. You've gotta just get to where it's the most compassionate option possible. I had told myself through all of her problems that as long as she could eat and drink and rest I wouldn't do it. But the moment I saw that was over it just hit me that it was time. I'm sure it's probably different for everyone but for me that was it.
