In light of Tomlin's comments earlier this week that Hoyer is not just the emergency QB this week, do you think he may be a little quicker to pull the plug on Methuselah Batch should he struggle early? I think there is greater than a 50/50 chance that we'll see Hoyer throwing his first pass as a Steeler on Sunday and I've got a feeling we'll be pleasantly surprised.

God, I hope not, as it probably means Methusa... I mean, Batch, has been knocked out by injury...

He can't be any worse than what we've seen the last two weeks in Leftwich and Batch.

Never say never... That being said... have we EVER seen Tomlin pull a qb who needs to be pulled? Or sit one who should sit?

But maybe this is the new and improved Tomlin who actually isn't afraid to make a tough coaching decision. After all, he demoted Mendenhall and Wallace this week.

And BRAVO to Tomlin for this!!! As far as Hoyer I hope we see him.... or do I??? This is just too much drama for grown me to be subjected to! Hopefully Charlie can get it together this week. I just don't know... I really just don't......know....(sighing)

I dont think Karpernik was expected to play at the high level he did when he came in for Alex Smith, Hoyer could have the same turnout

People who think it can't be any worse just lack imagination.

If Hoyer gets in, it will be a very bad situation, the Steelers are either getting blown out and/or Batch is hurt. Yeah, maybe Hoyer is the future back up, maybe he can be like Kaepernick coming in for Smith, or Ben for Maddox. But unlike those guys, Hoyers only been around a week and a half, barely know the playbook, and I'm sure isn't getting many snaps in practice because Batch needs them.

If Batch goes down, Hoyer is the next man up, and Hoyer had to learn something backing Brady up for 3 years, he just might surprise some people on the rats since they didnt prepare for him this week, they couldnt because they dont have any game film on him, it wouldnt bother me to see him coming into the game, how else are we going to find out what he has to offer as a backup, put him in coach.......

That move takes cojones. Even though I like Tomlin, he hasnt shown the ability to do 180's on gamedays. The last 2 weeks he basically had every right to go to the bullpen in the 4th.

What is the definition of insanity?

Expecting different results in the last 5 minutes of both of those games after watching the position " own it" and "accept" and "stand behind our work" for the first 55 minutes of each game could be a sign of insanity. It made me a bit more insane.

Imagine breaking down that film- watching each play - each player dozens of times....... it was painful just watching on TV. Hope that had some pepto

Interesting comments from Bill Belichick on Hoyer:
“That’s one of the things Brian definitely gives us, is that any time we put him in at practice, you don’t think about what plays he’s in there for, can he do this or can he do that,” Belichick said. “He’s called on to run whatever plays he’s thrown in there for and he can do them. That’s a huge plus for your backup quarterback, and I’m sure it’s similar there for Philadelphia.”

Sounds like Belichick had a lot of confidence that Hoyer fully understood the playbook and could step right in without any problems. I also read or saw a video somewhere where Brady was singing Hoyer's praises and was talking about how smart he was. A lot of people were surprised when Hoyer was released. I think we've got a bonafide back-up here and if Batch struggles on Sunday, I hope Tomlin gives Hoyer an opportunity.

And this article talks about Hoyer being the heir apparent to Tom Brady. This guy has some substance.

Very nice endorsement, we have nothing to lose putting Hoyer in if Batch is struggling. I hope Tomlin is willing to pull the trigger. Screw loyalty ,we need this game.

:this!: I believe Hoyer will be more of a threat to the Bmore D because they know the little Batch is capable of which isn't much

I`ve always been a big fan of Charlie Batch.
He didn`t give me much to support him, after his play last Sunday.
Still, I like the odds of him, better, just because he is so familiar with our system, compared to a guy who has just come in, and had less than a week to learn the plays/playcalling terminology, etc.
Also, as has been said, he couldn`t have had much work with the 1st string, since Batch needs it more.
As for the quotes from former teammates and coaches...What do you expect them to say?
In this politically correct age, they are NOT gonna say anything bad about their teammate, except in extremely rare circumstances.
I don`t know much about the guy, and I am hopeful that he can be a good back-up to Ben in the future, BUT...
If he gets put in the game against Balt, I find it VERY hard to believe he would be a better option than Batch, with only a week with his new team.
Sure, surprises happen(like Ben), but the odds are definitely against it.
I just hope Charlie comes in and handles his business. I think that gives us a better chance at a win.
