I think the only way he falls out of the top 5 is if he really bombs at the combine. Luke Kuechley wasn't an elite athlete either but he went 9th, and T'eo is a bigger playmaker than Kuechley.

So he IS still with the Raiders right? But if he DID get traded would the other team have to pick up the suspension or would he have to wait until after the suspension to suit up again? I'm not sure how the rules work in that situation. A Raiders fan I work with told me today that he said on Facebook that he's no longer a Raider. What gives?

You're right. I wasn't even thinking about that when I typed the word "traded". So you think they're basically trying to get rid of him for the rest of the season?

they will try and rid themselves of him for as long as possible ...suspended players do not get paid ....

I suspect they hold his rights and try and trade him for whatever they can get at seasons end ( namely draft picks ) a couple low rounders to a mid rounder is what he would probably fetch on the open market provided he can behave himself in the meantime ... if we could steal him for a 5th rounder I would **** my pants , ya just never know

Could have been had before the trade deadline.

They have no choice but to cut him.....His salary is very high next season....this was the year to trade when a team could get a look at him for less than 1 mill.

If they really wanted to screw him they cut him in two weeks...so he has to pass through waivers...and can be gotten by the lowest ranked interested team....Cut him in the offseason and he is a FA who can go where he wants.

we shall see just how much Al Davis is left in the Raiders organization because what you just stated is exactly what Al would have done ...

    good stuff

I think the only reason they didn't cut him already is they wanted to hit him in the wallet.....costs him about 100,000 of 900,000 salary

I would be really, really interested in kicking the tires on McClain for the balance of the season. I am about 90% sure that Sylvester is not the successor to Foote as our Mack. As for Te'o - I would be thrilled to land him. If you look back, you will see 3 years of very solid production and leadership, and little or no lost time due to injury. His intangibles are pretty much off the charts. He reminds me a lot of Tedy Bruschi, who was probably one of the most underrated ILBs in recent memory. However, I think that Te'o is stronger and more athletic than Bruschi, so he should have an even better career. I don't see him as a top 5 pick because he is probably only suited to a 3-4 in the NFL. His combine numbers may go a long way to whether 4-3 teams think he can be the sole man in the middle. Based on what my eyes tell me, I expect him to run around a 4.65 - 4.75 40, which is a bit slow for a true 4-3 MLB, but just fine for our Mack. It's certainly early to predict draft position, but when you factor in that a bunch of talented underclassmen may declare, he may be more in the 12-20 range.

My MOST intriguing prospect at this time is Jarvis Jones from Georgia. Even though he's only 240 lbs, he is a monster pass rusher who already plays in a 3-4 front. He may be a 15+ per year sack guy in the NFL. His projected draft position varies quite a bit. I've seen him as high as 3, and as low as the bottom teens.

you think ? , maybe to the average onlooker but one must consider he has been playing out of pos his entire career with 3 different coordinators in 3 seasons ... he is a natural MIKE linebacker playing Middle linebacker in a 4-3 ......

square peg round hole anyone ??

remember Timmons playing outside in Harrisons spot ? he did not look so good did he ?? same thing really the only real difference is Timmons has had his entire pro career in one system with one Coordinator yet he still looked like crap

Ryan Clark wasn't very good either...hence we are his 3rd team.....Randy Moss stunk in Oakland to....Remember all the he is washed up and not that good....Then think about the 50 TD's he caught from Tom Brady in NE.

I get your point, but that isn't necessarily true on Clark. He was a good player at the Redskins...very underrated. Him and Sean Taylor were a really great combo and it is a big reason they brought him in to work with Troy. I'm really not sure why the Redskins didn't keep him, but it was probably because their owner likes to throw money at people who are overpriced.

The Redskins signed Adam Archuleta. But that doesn't explain why the Giants let him go as well.

Jerome Bettis went from 1429 yards and Off rookie of the year to 637 yards and ran out of town.....That seemed to work out ok

or my favorite...our own James Harrison...not only did we not want him for years...the Ravens didn't want him either...and those are both teams that know LB's pretty well.....sometimes you just need to be in the right spot at the right time with the right coaching and the right team around you.

Larry Foote was miserable playing back in his hometown of Detroit....as the Lions simply are not the Steelers.

People on this board often talk about "locker room cancer" and you don't want that kind of guy in your locker room.....I think it works in reverse too....Sometimes you add that guy to your locker room...and he gets it.....he doesn't want to be a "loser" anymore...and sees how hard professionals work..and how good success feels. Randy Moss is obviously the guy to look at there....with the Vikings...he was all everything...then he went to the Raiders...and it wasn't the same commitment from everyone...and they were losing...and everyone thought it was done....He goes to the PATS locker room...and is destroying the league...They part because of contract stuff and he bounces around two losing teams in a year.....now in San Fran...they love him again.

McClain has never sniffed a playoff game after winning a national title in college.....and has never even had a winning record since joining the league....I guarantee you put him in a solid locker room...full of guys that are committed to success...and he will turn his career around.....Working and winning are both contagious.

McClain sucks hasn't done anything in the NFL I don't want him on the Steelers. McClain last season held a gun to a man's head and laughed about it another Raiders bust of a draft pick.

again the man has played out of pos his entire career ...

2011 in 15 games 99 tackles 5 sacks and 14 passes defensed from a guy who is playing MLB on a 4-3 team when almost anyone with a brain had him slated as a 3-4 Mike linebacker coming into the draft .....

he is just a 23 year old kid with 3 years NFL exp already under his belt ...

if you can not see the bright side in any of that not sure what I can tell you .....

forget the off field stuff , we where not there and do not know what went down , that is in his past and he has been judged for it already and is still a free man so their must be BIG pieces of that story we are not privy to or he would be in prison .....

and remember this at the end of the day he is paid to play football , not be a Mr. Fred Rodgers clone

Also the charges against him were dropped.

Big Ben held something to a young womans head outside of Atlanta....no charges filed....or his settlement with the woman in Nevada....but I guess because he has done something in the NFL its ok

Its all risk reward...the risk is small...and saves having to draft an ILB high...the reward is off the charts and saves having to draft an ILB early

Plus one of McClains biggest assets coming out of college was his intelligence.....Saban called him one of the smartest players he ever coached...and another coach on the field.

Even if the body has declined...which at 23 I doubt.....his mind did not.....his interest IMO did....he was one of their leading tacklers until his being benched...got 9 against the Steelers.......they benched him...they took him away from the field...they fined him.....did he care about being benched???? as he is now quoted as saying "I got 4million reasons not to care"

If you are not playing to WIN...then you are just playing for money......Losing breeds discontent....put him on a team that expects to win and be in the playoffs...vs one that is hoping to make it to 500 and watch the playoffs...and I think you will see a new player.

James Harrison provides the perfect lock room example for him , act like a fool and he just might take your head off , having those sort of players around a guy like McClain could not hurt his development into a true Beast

Foote said it...Burress has said it...That Steeler locker room is like a family.. Ryan Clark said it about Ta'amu...he is our brother and we want to be there for him..........from the FO to the water boy...and you fight harder for family...and you work harder for family....as you never want to be the one that lets family down.

    A) If you want to see McClain making some plays just rewatch the Raiders beating us.

    B) Lets see how much better the Raiders play without him on Def.

    C) I wrote this on the Raiders board...but I think it really applies "Hey Carson, how you get out of Cincinnati again?" Rolando McClain
