I unfortunately wasn’t around to watch the 70s teams and although Lambert is the face of the Steelers with the missing teeth and ferocious attitude my father says Jack Ham was a great LB in his own right during those years.

WTF...Cowher & Mike T??? ROTFLMAO!!! Two decent coaches, true, but neither is a GREAT coach. One undervalued the QB position (until the end of his tenure) and one undervalued the hard work, preparation, time, & dedication needed to win Championships at the NFL level. If you look up the word UNDERACHIEVING in the dictionary, you'll see pictures of Bill & Mike trying to figure out what went wrong! Between the two of them, they cashed out a sh!tload of paychecks from our Organization, yet delivered only 2 Championships with some of the most talented teams in NFL History...in the big picture, both men get graded a C- :no2:

That Chuck Knoll guy should have the whole mountain to himself. He's that legendary.

Your dad is 100% correct. Ham was one of the most fundamentally sound OLB's in NFL history. He had perfect technique as a tackler. Was great in pass defense and never fooled or out of position.

I see LaGarrette is under investigation for punching a guy in the face after his kid's youth football game last week in Arizona.

    Man this is hard.

Hands down mean joe greene and lambert.
Big ben is the top QB.

But fourth is hard. Do you go with a fan favorite like ward and troy. Who were great, but more of fan favorites.

But I think Mel Blount name should be there. They literally made a rule against him because he jammed WR past the 5 year line. And it changed the league big time.... but funny thing is, he was still a big time player.

    So my Rushmore is.....

    Mean joe greene
    Jack lambert
    Big ben
    Mel blount

    Ham was exceptional
    Back in the day..............
There was this truck that played for the Houston Oilers, Earl Campbell.
He ran over everybody and everything.... I don't remember him ever running away from anyone.
Till he met the Steel Curtain in '79. (Playoffs)
Campbell was held to just 15 yards on 17 carries. The LB's were largely responsible for that.
Leading up to the match, Campbell had:
    1,697 rushing yards
19 touchdowns - led the league in both categories.
Set NFL records with eleven 100-yard rushing games (7 of those were consecutive 100-yard games)
    368 carries.
That was a Hall of Fame performance by the Steelers.

I might be 40 years old. But I know people personally who played football from the 60's to about 5 years ago.

I can go into talking when the all pros fun the draft faced the prior nfl team the womb the super bowl or some nfl top team...... green bay lost to an all pro team.

So I tell that story because of how easier it was to win it all back then vs winning a ring now with 32 teans.

I really couldn't disagree more. Both Cowher and Tomlin have been to multiple Super Bowls, AFCCs, and Etc. These are two of the greatest coaches in NFL history. I am ready to move on from Tomlin. But I recognize his legacy. He is a first ballot HOF coach when he retires.

    This was a cool idea!

Seems I'm younger then a lot of members on here. My Steeler fandom started in the 90's.

My Mt. Rushmore would have the terrible towel in the background with the following players:

    Troy Polamalu (my favorite Steeler)
    Heath Miller
    Hines Ward
    Big Ben R.

I know from my Father all about the amazing 70's teams and I understand a lot are Hall of Fame guys but I've only seen them on YouTube so I'm going with my hero's I grew up with.

The syntax is a little weird, but I get your point.
Yes, the 1963 College Allstars led by Otto Graham did upset the Great Lombardi Team, (they did half-step it and Vince Lombardi felt humiliated)
Two names from the All-Star team:
Ray Mansfield - Awesome Center for 12 season for us, 'the Ranger' was a solid as they come (Len Hauss would be the guy I could compare him to)
Dave Robinson - Played well enough that Lombardi drafted him right away.

To win it all back then, you build your team with hard-nosed players, hired a good coach and presto.
There were no 'platoons' or situational players..

Otto Graham who coached the All Stars in that win surprised everyone by naming Ron Vanderkelen out of Wisconsin as the starting QB. Vanderkelen was undrafted but Graham liked what he saw from him in the previous Rose Bowl. Vanderkelen's big game against the Packers led him to sign a free agent contract with the Vikings where he played as a backup QB for 5 seasons.
