I didn't see the entire game, but that was not a dirty hit. The defender had his arms around Tagovailoa, but he was still trying to escape, so the guy whipped him to the ground.

 

I was going to ask him the same thing. I've done some reporting on second impact syndrome. It is very dangerous. There have been deaths from concussions at the lower levels of football. They almost always involve second impact syndrome. It is what nearly killed Merril Hoge, who was allowed to play by the Bears even though he hadn't fully recovered from a concussion. His heart actually stopped in the locker room, but doctors were able to revive him. When he woke up, he didn't recognize his won wife and child. He had to re-learn how to tie his shoes and other basic tasks. He couldn't even go for a walk around the block for weeks because he would forget the way home. He fully recovered, but he expects to have cognitive issues when he is older.

 

That wasn't a dirty hit. Unfortunate yes but not dirty. The way Tua plays the game he was bound to end up on a cart sooner or later. Always trying to make a huge play and throwing off balance constantly. He's going to have a very short career. Hopefully he took advantage of his free ride scholarship cause he probably won't be in the NFL very long.

In all seriousness, I started to respond the same way. It was unfortunate but I don’t think it was a dirty hit. He wrapped him up and tackled him, slinging him to the ground and the DT was a much larger man than Tua.

 

Also, watch it closely. Tagovailoa was still trying to pull free from the defender's grasp. That is why he whipped him to the ground.
