yea, i don't agree with number 2. the defense didn't do us any favors in this one. yes the holding was bad. not a good showing though. TJ can't be the excuse until he's back. we have too much money tied up on that side of the ball for excuses. somebody make a play. step up as cam said, but they didn't. not terrible but not good either.

They still need to do their jobs. It would be one thing if the Patriots were running their regular offense, but this was an instance of knowing the run is coming and still not coming close to stopping it.

I wonder if part of that was losing Bush, which sounds odd. He had played well in the opener. Spillane has not been good at all so far.

That's an NFL in 2022 problem, not a sole defensive problem. The NFL has destroyed the running back and defense in the NFL. Therefore, it doesn't matter if you have talent or not, any decent offense or QB can matriculate down the field at will.

Keep in mind that it was on the same drive.... Without the former, there is no latter

True, but it was the muffed punt that handed the Patriots the ball in the red zone.

Not to mention the false starts by the Patriots OL, that the refs didn't call.

Well Cam was going up against a rookie, and he didn't exactly step up when the team needed him to .

I give credit where it is due, though I'm not entirely certain it was Blast. I know I question the point when someone made it. I don't think the pass rush completely disappeared as predicted and the Patriots got away with a hell of a lot of holding and false starting, but you can't argue with zero sacks.

Yup. They got away with at least three, maybe four, before the officials finally threw the flag. One of those was the most blatant I've ever seen a tackle get away with.

I don't know... remember that game against Chargers....I believe it was Rivers last year. Their right tackle was false starting on,and off that whole dang game.

I remember. The Chargers did it more that game, but the Patriots' tackle moved incredibly early and got away with it. I was just stunned that there was no flag.

Don't go thinking you're gaining any ground in the Darius Leonard debate, though. ;)

I won't say the refs have it out for a particular team...I think the officiating is pretty poor league wide. That said we are not talking about calls that are hard to interpret. Those were bonified miffs that just can't happen.

Agreed. It only feels one-sided because the Patriots did what they always do. They figured out what calls weren't being made and took advantage.
