I didn't understand it before the season when they made final cuts keeping Batch and Leftwich was the wrong decision. Batch is too old and can't make all the throws and Leftwich is a china doll who can't stay healthy. I was listening to Pittssburgh sportstalk and the hosts made a good point you keep one veteran qb and one young qb as backups. The older veterans tend to get injured more often, I wanted the team to keep Jerrod Johnson and let him develop. The front office thought they were in good shape keeping two veterans as backups but neither one of them can play at a high level.

Agree totally. We needed a young backup to groom. Either through free agency or draft.

I am still shaking my head as to why the Steelers let Jerrod Johnson go. I thought he performed admirably in preseason.

That being said though, I liked some of what I saw from Charlie. I like his movement in the pocket, and I like his poise. What he doesn't have is a strong arm, as evidenced by his deep throws today (and also explains why the Steelers went with Lefty over Batch versus the Ravens--they wanted a deep threat). Two of the interceptions he threw were bad decisions coupled with a less than strong arm. However, I do think that he is a quality backup. I don't think there are very many teams in the league with the quality of backups that we have. Both Batch and Lefty are pretty solid in that role (comparatively with other teams in the league).

I wish they would have at least signed Johnson to the practice squad.

It's been a good stretch but I think it's safe to say that ol'man Charlie will be gone after this season

Batch will be our starter next week if Ben can't go. Hopefully Haley can design a gameplan around his strengths.

That will be a thin playbook.

so long as it includes running backs who can hold on to the ball, it is what it is.

He had the whole week to prepare one for today.

Unfortunately, I think his plan revolved around a solid running game - not one that literally imploded in front of our eyes.

We counted on a strong running game, we counted wrong.

Running game definitely imploded but Batch still threw 3 picks and missed countless open receivers.

    Just what are his strenghts?

He did move well a few times in the pocket today but also threw 3 ints (or was it 4) no matter.

And yes ALL RBs sucked today.Just dont see Batch winning any games with his arm for us no matter how well we run the ball.

Yep. As I've said elsewhere, the blame can't be reduced to one aspect of the game. Batch did suck, quite tremendously.

Easy on Chuck. He performed like you should expect from a 3rd stringer. Actually I thought he performed fairly well for a third stringer. And lets not forget he is just that...a 3rd stringer. When you are down to such depths, you need a lot of help, specifically from the running game. As we all know he didn't get much help from the backs today. Nor from Wallace. Nor from an undisciplined mistake prone O line. Chuck didn't play a great game by any stretch. But Chuck is way, way, way down on the list of blame for this loss. If the RBs hold onto the ball, the Steelers win this game no question about it.

Oh and I give Rainey a pass on his fumble. Dude was busting his ass trying to make a play and got whacked. Hard.

:facepalm:To all that think Batch did a goog job today! Yes he did not make many mental mistakes, and moved around the pocket some. But come on I've seen high school quarterbacks throw better and with more velocity. Don't the coaches see this in practice. Thanks for what you have done, but time to go.

You are the only fan that I think makes sense bobby.. this isn't charlies fault. Fumblehall set the tone for what was to come, not only that, 2 fumbles for fumblehall on three Fumblehall carries. I was critized for calling him that earlier in the season for but I never liked him. What is it going to take for this team, Tomlin, (and fans) to realize he isn't the answer at running back? This is why Dwyer and Redman get a lot of carries.

What do you want? He hasn't played in 2 years and he's old going up against a young physical Cleveland line. If you want to pass any blame regarding the qb position blame tomlin for keeping him on the roster.

Oh, you wanted to keep Johnson?
Well, that makes it OK, then.

    Exactly.

Chuck is the 3rd stringer. Does anyone actually think that Johnson would have performed better than Chuck?

No, there is a reason he is not on the team or any other NFL roster.

Without Ben, this team is lucky to win four games. The talent level has dropped off considerably. Simply put, Colbert, Tomlin and the scouting dept. need to do a better job in drafting and signing free agents. You can drink the kool-aid all you want, this team has a lot of holes....

How many times did he miss a wide open Heath?
