I think either they are retiring a number, my money is on Franco on the Dec. 24th game 50th anniversary Immaculate celebration.

    Or
B.) Art is turning 70 ( in a few days) maybe he saying he going to step down as team president and let Dan Jr. take over the Team President job. and he saying this will be his final season at the helm before he takes a reserve role.
This wouldn't be too different that what his Dad did, his Dad stepped aside at age 70 and let Art II take over.
Its been long rumored that Dan Jr is next in line and was being groomed to take over for Art II

Could be Tomlin is stepping down after this season and Flores is gonna be the next head coach. It’s weird he is doing it right after Tomlin is finished with his press conference. Boy would this be a shocker if that is indeed what it is.

Little birds have told me that Mario will use the money he got in the Pens sale to become a minority owner of the Steelers. Just kidding I have no idea.

Art II is only 69 years old? I thought that he was in his 80's. I can't believe that I am around the same age as he is. Of course people probably look at me and think that I am in my 80's too.

Crap! They're going to retire the number of the player who made the single greatest play in NFL history? Not firing Tomlin? Not stepping aside? Not selling the team to someone with more football smarts? FARI!!!!!!

They're retiring the number of the player who made the greatest play in NFL history? Oh man is SDOT going to be pissed when James Harrison comes out on stage with Rooney to have #92 retired.

I think we only have 2 retired, but with Francos immaculate reception at year 50..and it is memorable as one (if not the greatest) plays ever..that would not surprise me, nor would a special deal with heinz to keep the heinz red zone lol. Memories are great...money talks louder.

When we were speculating yesterday someone mentioned retiring Ben's number. I think that would be one of those polarizing topics that would get a lot of us on the board fighting with among ourselves.

Was there anything earth shattering in Tomlin’s press conference at noon

    Injury update

Has anyone worn 43 since Troy P left???? Maybe, but I can't remember it being so.

I saw a thread about this on Twitter. Somebody mentioned that it would somehow be a strike against Rod Woodson that other Steelers had worn 26 since he left. I don't think they would retire Woodson's number, anyway, especially given that he played a big chunk of his career elsewhere. That said, would it count against retiring Ham's number that Todd Seabaugh wore it? Also, Malik Reed is wearing 59. He is the first since Seabaugh.

The Steelers have not given out 12 since Bradshaw, 43 since Polamalu, 47 since Blount, 52 since Webster, or 58 since Lambert. I know they have given out 88 since Swann and 82 since Stallworth.

By the way, I found a way to check this on Profootballreference.com.

What happens if a team retires so many numbers there isn’t enough left for a roster? Say the Steelers in another 100 years or so.
