That was the lost identity year. Maddox makes Ward and Burress look like Rice/Taylor because teams are loading up the box to stop Bettis. The following year its full Tommy Gun offense but teams are playing coverage and not worried about Bettis. By the time Cowher realized his mistake the losing season was already reality. God I hated that season.

It's consistent with what they did with Landry so you aren't far off. Even when they still had Vick, Jones remained the backup.

While I'll reserve judgment on Warren until I see how much Canada utilizes him, I'm afraid we have seen this show before and it didn't end well for the camp phenom that time either. Not saying Snell is better just that I've been burned before.

Anyone going to comment about the WR depth behind the Starting 3 is Boykin and the smurfs? Seriously is there a new quota for 5'7 wr's?

If it makes you feel any better Blast remember Jamis Winston and Marcus Marriota never made it with their draft teams and are kind of we have nothing else choices this year. Willis could be great or could be Vince Young. Time will tell

Vick was terrible during his time with the Steelers. He could still run, but that was about it.

They have three big receivers. How many teams have more?

I can see Boykin giving Claypool a breather and maybe Gunner getting a snap or two for DJ I guess. How are you seeing a division of labor? Boykin as a 4th or one of the smaller quick guys?

I think Gunner will be the next Switzer.

He will have 0.00 YAC, but he will keep getting the ball on checkdowns for little gain and no 1st downs!!!

I love those guys heart but the Ravens teach their guys to destroy people and every time I see those little guys it's hold your breath time. Remember Switzer in the Jacksonville game? Guy tried to wrench his head off.

Exactly. If they do actually go into the season like this, Kenny won’t be #3 for long, 2,3, 4 games tops before he moves up. If Tomlin lets him languish as 3rd string all season, he truly is an idiot as some fans have claimed.

Skill trumps knowing the playbook or did people watch that Detroit game and come away thinking omg Rudolph is so good. Yeah, knowing the playbook really made a difference :thumbs up:

I was mildly surprised at the QB Depth Chart.
I'm not quite as down on Mason as some are, but Kenny is a better QB.
So, I figure if Mitch gets hurt, Mason will finish the game but next game I would expect Kenny to be ready in the wings.
That's the best rationalization I could come up with.

As far as a trade, I think a starter has to go down from some team before a trade happens.

Thats about the only scenario I can think of that this makes sense. Because what message are you sending if when Rudolph has to play and he inevitably plays poorly enough to be benched and then you turn to Pickett, and say, here you go Kenny, time to shine, we believe in you, we are forced to play you but we believe in you, go get em tiger :goofy:

I don't put much stock in Kenny being #3 instead of #2, you can easily go from #3 to #1 just as easy as going to #2 to #1

Its an NFL experience thing and not much else.

Kenny is going to have to run the scout teams I would imagine. I didn't see where the Steelers even have a #4 on practice squad.

Tomlin knows it gives Mitch a more fair shot. With out having Kenny being suited to play and fans screaming for him should Mitch struggle. You know fans aren't screaming for Rudolph. LOL.

Take it to the bank Mason Rudolph has what it takes to be employed in the NFL a long time as a NFL back up QB.

I think its more likely he goes the Landry Jones path.

And fans will still be screaming for Pickett regardless. Trubisky may not have to be worried about being pulled that game but the following week he could. I don’t think Picketts depth chart spot has anything to do with Trubiskys psyche.

The biggest step in bringing on these rookie QB's is getting the NFL game 'to slow down' for them.
I do think Kenny is well ahead of that curve.
Kenny running a scout team is not terrible, there is some value in that, and it is just temporary.

I would not mind if Mitch has an ok to solid season and they come back to camp with competition again open.
No starter should not be looking over his shoulder.

This is the first time in awhile that I like our depth on the d-line. I hope there is big time rotation this year.

It probably more to do with Mason knowing more in game challenges to help assist. But I have never seen that much from Mason, Dobbs usually was the guy helping Ben in street clothes. Mason be off to the side with his helmet on ready to go.

I don't have the hatred that some do of Mason. He will be employed next year by someone and he will have a game day uniform bank on it.

Kenny's day will come just got to be patient. I have to big fear and realization that a lot of fans just want to see Mitch fall on his face so they can see Kenny Pickett right away.

Heck this is the NFL look at the 49ers Jimmy G takes them one game from a Super Bowl, and you got Trey Lance starting and him backing up the next season.

Tyson is pretty old and Cam isn't getting younger. But, I have no doubt Cam will still be a beast. But, as you age in the NFL the injuries catch him fast with a lot of players. I ike Wormley off the bench, don't like Wormley being an every down starter.

But like what I saw in Leal, Loudermilk needs to take a next step, Loudermilk was a bit of no show in pre-season.

Larry O is gonna be good, if he produces like he always has, and if his foot is a known issue. He's on the prove it deal. 1 year.

Sounds like somebody is pouting because they didn't get their way? Also feels like someone doesn't want a player on his team to do well if they get in so they'll feel better and say he told us so. Going out on a limb here but coaching staffs don't create depth charts to make fans feel confident or comfortable. I'd assume our coaches put their best players in positions for the team to win. If they didn't, we'll find out soon enough and then go from there with the haters still hating. JMO>

So, what will the fans be upset with MR about? Just for doing his best and just being there or are most fans you are talking about not real fans? Just wondering. I would accept anyone of the three QBs to be the starter but getting down on someone for nothing they have done wrong stinks. Hard to call someone a fan that shouts garbage that make that player not feel like he is wanted and possibly impacting his play to the detriment of the overall team's effort. The opponent's fans are probably going, WTF, that's what we're supposed to do. IMO>
