I made a similar point in another thread, Munchak had very good players like Pouncey, Decastro, Foster, Gilbert and Beachum to work with when he arrived. Some of those guys were already among the best in the league when he took over, albeit he did great work with Villanueva and Feiler and a few others afterwards.

There is an alarming lack of quality and pedigree with this current group, that’s on the front office and no coach will fix it, at least not quickly. The best you can hope for is that they start getting the basics right and grow together as a group to the point where the offence can operate efficiently. Time will tell if Meyer is the right guy

 

Probably safe to assume the new O-line coach didn't like what we had for depth and thought these trades improved us.

 

im surprised derwin gray is still out there. we thought he at one time had some potential until he was grabbed from our PS. maybe not a super bowl move but he didn't look terrible when here. trent scott as well didn't look too bad at LT in the preseason. are we not wanting good competition for moore so he doesn't look worse? i don't get it. make a friggin move. have we even tried okrafor over there instead? shouldn't a RT be easier to find if we moved him? i like moore but he needs some time to get stronger and coached up more. there are guys out there but they seem set on making this group work no matter what.

 

Last season we had several rookies and nobodies on the O-line. Sophomore slumps are a real thing. I've heard mostly due to the fact that there is now tape on a players weaknesses and tendencies. So opponents can target those issues every game. Green and Moore were terrible last season...and with a capitol T terrible. Not sure how they can get much worse than last season so my hope rests on that fact. Problem is there's a good chance they lose their starting jobs if they're any worse. Hopefully they became dramatically better this past off season. New coaching and a couple new bodies doesn't always mean improvement.

looks like nothing will change as of now. keep letting them try to gel. daniels is looking better so maybe this is the right formula. at least i hope it is. we shall see soon enough. at least we have options now.

 

I will start worrying about the ol around week 4. If things haven’t improved by then it’s probably going to be a long season.

 

A friend has a welding/fabrication shop and does work for the air force jet parts etc

Needless to say his company does excellent work

He has a sign in the shop that says if you have to grind a weld to make it look good you’re not a welder you’re a grinder

 

well it is 17 games.

 

Man I can still remember being excited when the Steelers made moves during free agency to bring in some O linemen. But I was a lot younger then.

But, like the report said Moore can basically only play LT. As long as the Moore option is better then Davis at RT, Chuks will stay at RT.

Just have to see wait and see how Davis plays in practice OR, how bad Moore plays in the games.

That seems like an oddly personal question out of left field.

 

On paper this O-line looks horrible. I'm not ready to write them off tho. We have new coaches. Coaching on the O-line is crucial. Good technique can make mediocre talent good enough. What we saw last season was a joke. I think it's fair to give the new coach the benefit of the doubt and maybe 3-4 weeks to see what has improved and what hasn't.
