He was probably going to be cut at 4 and we just eliminated the competition

 

Didn't we have this same problem with Highsmith at the beginning of last season?

I don't remember. He played in the opener. The only game he missed was Week 3 against the Bengals. People seem to forget the Steelers were missing both outside linebackers for that first loss to the Bengals. Of course, there were no such excuses when Cinci crushed them later in the season.

 

That's a low rental price for him. Last couple of years gave up a 5th for someone that usually does not work out.

By all accounts Reed is a rotational player, decent situational pass rusher but not a starter. Given that they got him for basically nothing i like the move. He will probably play a lot of snaps and is much better than what they had.

Does anybody buy for a second that they wouldn't have traded him just anywhere if the return had been better? I don't.

 

He got playing time against Detroit, and I don't think he had any pressures.

 

I think Highsmith had an injury to his ribs, they're probably being cautious with him no need to play in the preseason.

 

Reed had a strip sack of Ben last season.

 

Kid can play. This was a really good pick up.
