I don’t know how some of you watch this game for decades and still can’t grasp the fact it’s a team sport. All 11 players on offense or defense working as one. It’s not about what heyward or watt have to prove. It’s about timing and working together as a unit. You don’t get that cohesion by sitting on the mother loving bench and watching.

The mother loving part makes me chuckle. Every time they insert that in place of the real one in a movie it makes me smile. "Get these mother lovin' snakes off this mother lovin' plane!"

I hope Najee being drafted by the Steelers doesn't end up like Saquon being drafted by the Giants.

Yeah. Plugging Watt in after not playing all preseason just disrupted the hell out of the defense last year.

Tell me how great that defense was again.

of course you’ll point to personal accolades as some sort of trump card all the while ignoring aspect of it being a team sport

    1. The Rams didn't play most of their starters last preseason. How did that work out for them?
    2. See No. 1. Also, see T.J. Watt last season.
    3. It's not about being able to handle those plays. It is about the inherent risk of injury in every snap of a football game. Take Kazee as an example. It was a fluke. He just landed awkwardly and he is going to miss a huge chunk of the season if not all of it.

If you are making major changes or incorporating a new quarterback, that changes things. The first-team offense needed that time together, but protecting your stars from the sort of fluke that happened to Kazee has value. That is especially important to consider with someone like Watt, who has a history of nagging injuries.

Actually, they were pretty damn amazing in the opener. Go back and watch what they did against the Bills and tell me they weren't ready.

Edit: I linked the box score. They held one of the league's best offenses to 16 points. I guess they just weren't ready because they didn't get enough snaps with Watt.

    cherry pick much?

I know this is hard for you to accept, but you’re arguing from a losing position. There isn’t a coach on the planet that would take the path you’re advocating for. Sitting the starters until it counts isn’t the way it works. Sorry

You raised the issue of them not having the opportunity to gel as a unit defensively last season because Watt sat out the preseason. Wouldn't that affect them the most in the opening game? After that, they had a full game together. In that opening game, they had arguably their best defensive performance of the season. That is valid evidence for my side of the argument. I'm sorry that bothers you so much.

It's not a losing argument at all. Teams protect their stars during preseason all the time.

Also, you really should have read my last post more carefully. It would have saved you from posting something so easily proven false. I'll explain it more clearly. The Rams sat their starters in all of the preseason games last year, so your claim that no coach on the planet would take that approach has been proven false. In fact, McVay has done it for years. Oddly enough, I'm not advocating taking it as far as he does. I was just talking about being careful with stars like Watt.

Maybe I should push it farther. In case you didn't notice, that approach worked out just fine for the Rams last season.

I've got the Super Bowl champions on my side of the argument. You don't.

How does anybody know he has a lisfrac injury if the Steelers doctors don’t give physicals particularly feet and ankles

I should have known you would go there. A bit disingenuous of you, but that’s to be expected. While it is factually accurate that they sit starters during the preseason you’re leaving out one minor detail. They hold joint practices with multiple teams throughout training camp. So they don’t get the live reps during preseason they get them throughout training camp. What is he thinking putting players in harms way?

It's not disingenuous at all. You said no coach would do it. You didn't say that no coach would do it without using joint practices to compensate. Also, a joint practice is very different from a game. It is a far more controlled environment. Did you not know that or is it you being disingenuous now?

Face it. You made a terrible argument. You were proven factually wrong. It wasn't even difficult. Now you want to try to wiggle out of it by moving the goalposts.

If this team is taking 2 weeks off, they are doing it wrong. There is no proof that it causes more injuries by sitting out preseason.

You have to pull out the fine china and use them sooner or later. Reps in a game is always good to have and Najee didn’t look too affected by his injury. With respect to Trubisky and Pickett, hopefully our QBs won’t be as rusty as Ben was at the start of previous seasons.

What does first team reps for a starting position have to do with him being rusty for game one? Kenny outplayed him in every game. Was he rusty because he didn't get first team reps in the games? Was watt going to be supplanted by truszka because he played more preseason snaps and was more game one ready?

You do realize how Harris first got injured, right? So maybe you think he should just sit except for games

Harris suffered the injury four weeks ago. Also, based on your analogy, it would be like using the fine china for lunch on a random Tuesday.

My wife and I have actually started doing this

Made no sense to just leave it in a cabinet most of the time

I drink out of the crystal as well now

And I use the silver soup spoons but that’s because those are the only soup spoons we have

it wasn't from a cheap shot. It was practice. You practice to get ready for the game. Real games. Padded practice gets you ready for hitting and real games. They limited those because of injuries. Maybe they should just have walk throughs and play preseason games. Both are not really needed for a guy to get ready to play. How najee knows how to run the ball hasn't changed for him in the last 10 years of him doing it.
