Let's ship him and Claypoole and others to CHI-TOWN for Smith. ILB position solved for next 5 years.

Only if it was that simple. Would Chicago want Claypool and Bush as a return? Is there any guarantee that we sign Smith once he's here? That's ton to give up for a potential rental player that we could just sign when FA opens. Being that Smith is his own agent we would have to do some level of tampering to know what kind of money he's seeking.

We are not going to resign Bush next year so no loss there. As for Claypool, the jury is still out whether or not it will be a loss. If we have the cash then it’s a gamble worth taking

The Bears need upgrades at WR and OL if Justin Fields is gonna survive there. Miller and Boykin aren't upgrades and we don't have anyone to part with on OL.

If Pickens and Austin are as good as advertised, I can live with trading Claypool.

It wont happen though. We already have a ton of money invested in TJ and Minkah. I'm not sure Smith is a massive upgrade over Bush.

In theory yes, assuming the player can negotiate a like for like deal and not get caught out by the fine print etc. If it was me I dont think I’d risk it but it’s for each player to decide for themselves.

He is... but we aren't trading for him. Just too expensive.

Plus without an agent you loose out on the endorsement stuff they can generate

1 one thing to remember is the Steelers are not paying a 30 to 40 mill a year QB so there is some wiggle room

2 Smith is a massive upgrade. If he played outside Chicago he would be a house hold name. Bush might be out of the leagur in 2 years

Was listening to one of the PFF podcasts earlier while on a flight and they were very down on the thought of Smith looking to become the top paid off ball linebacker in football. They dont rate him at all and highlighted his poor run defending in particular. He hasn’t graded well in their system since coming in to the league and they basically suggested that he is living on his reputation as a top 10 pick, felt Chicago would do well to move on and put the money towards a more important position, which is what the Bears may be doing for all we know.

I don’t fully trust PFF and can’t say I have watched him too closely or followed his career tbh so I can’t confirm or refute the above but it was interesting to hear a different perspective.

    Well yeah

You don’t trade for him until you have a contract agreement in place

If you work in conjunction with the other team which obviously you are doing to make a trade it’s not tampering

You can’t make a deal without the trade
