Happy for everyone involved. DJ gets paid. Steelers get a Steelers friendly deal. Win = Win.

The Steelers deserve a lot of credit for signing multiple players to team friendly deals this off-season.

Me too. By the end of this deal I imagine he'll be underpaid, even as a #2 WR(not saying he's a #2, just how the market is moving). This past draft had 10 wrs drafted in the top 50 and probably will continue this path for years to come. Precisely why I'm ok with team friendly deals for these guys, because I don't see top dollar a wise business decision when CFB is producing this many WRs. Supply vs demand will definitely be a factor in the future market. Cap skyrocketing really got many guys paid but the correction is coming.

As for DJ. Glad him and his agent settled for a team friendly deal when he could've gotten 22/23m a year in FA. Heck he may have gotten more money agreeing to a franchise tag.

It is amazing what you can do when you don't have to pay an over the hill QB big money.

I’d imagine it’s is a two year extension to his current deal, meaning he has three years to play including 2022.

He will get a big signing bonus in 2022 and then at the end of 2023 both sides have a decision to make. I doubt he plays 2024 in this contract. He will be extended or traded depending on how things work out with Claypool, Pickens and whoever else they draft in the meantime.

I haven’t seen the details but just reading between the lines I think that is how it’s set up

Great analysis and how I see this as well. I wouldn't be surprised to see a WR drafted in Rd 2 or 3 signaling the potential of this.

So what is your point of pointing that out? If it ain’t in reference to try to say one is better then the other then it doesn’t matter.

I see this differently than you. You want to give the next QB the best opportunity to succeed as possible. DJ is a young, proven, has a great skill set, and highly productive WR at the NFL level. You want to provide the next QB that comes a weapon of this caliber with in reason.

I also think Mitch's struggles in camp without his #1 WR out there, really helped get this deal done.

How soon until we hear about Mitch to DJ TD in camp?

Maybe Mason will be the best option? No one knows until the offense faces opposition.

Well, he wasn't going to sign for less than 18 million a year, all those other receivers from his class got 20 million a year or more.

I'm not sold on him being high production, just to be clear. I'm not saying he's bad.

It's a two year extension, so they aren't counting this year.

I’m not all in on freiermuth either. I wanted creed Humphrey. I’d rather have a bad TE and a good Center than a good TE and a bad Center.
I can throw to others but have to have a center to block a NT.
