Practice Report: Wednesday, July 27 (steelers.com)
Since the offense opened with a three-receiver deployment, the defense countered with five defensive backs. The first group had Cam Heyward and Chris Wormley as linemen; T.J. Watt and Alex Highsmith on the edges; Myles Jack and Devin Bush at linebacker; Levi Wallace and Ahkello Witherspoon at cornerback; Cam Sutton in the slot; and Terrell Edmunds and Damontae Kazee at safety.

OMFG! This Defense is the reason the Steelers were #32 in run defense last year.

I would much rather see the Steelers go with a 3-3, by removing Bush or Jack than those 2 man fronts we saw all last year. I was told that last year they had to run the 2-Man fronts because of injuries to the DL. Now first play of training camp and it is Cam and Wormley in a 2 man front again!!!

I have to agree with you. Even a 42 is a better formation, but I much prefer a 33 stack myself. 24 just hurts everyone and forces guys like Minkah to play the run.

It’s their nickel defense and at times their big nickel. It’s worked very well for us in the past. Last year we were decimated by injuries. No need to throw the baby out with the bath water

And the defense knows the Steelers offense can't run the ball.

On an over reaction meter that goes to a 1000 you are at 1150.

At this stage of the season I'm more concerned with what they had for lunch.

This is the new Base offense for the NFL. 3WRs 1TE 1RB. They are going to see this offense on 1st down all year long. If the Steelers are going to counter this offense with a 2 man front you might as well pencil us in again for #32 in run defense again this year. Bush has no business trying Same Defensive formation we ran last year and finished last in the league against the run. Same damn guys, Cam and Wormley no changes from last year

Bush and Jack need that NT in front of them to take the offensive lineman off them. Asking Bush to shed an offensive lineman and then fill the hole to make the tackle is not his game.

I guess with Tomlin the Same, is the Same.

6 blockers, six man front. everybody is one on one. they have to defeat a block. a one on one block. it's not that unfathomable to expect that.

One of things that Tomlin has mentioned time and time again is that they design drills/situations that puts a player(s) at a disadvantage to see how they respond.
This is a defense they would practice as I am sure there are teams they would like to use it against.
As a side note, I once saw them line up in the "Swinging Gate" offense.

9 Days till Seattle comes to town for a "practice game"

Pickett was working with 2nd team, but I expect them to shuffle those spots, and even expect to see Pickett and Mason take some reps with 1st team.
Pickett did have a nice TD throw then other day..
I don't know what to think of Mitch yet. He really has been middle of the road.

Middle of the road? The last I checked he was 0-17 in the 7 shots drill. If that’s middle of the road I don’t want to know what terrible looks like

I'm going on a little broader spectrum - an entirety of the drills.
The 7 shots drill has not been good for him, though he's had some nice throws and there's been drops or excellent defense, but the same token, he has some head scratchers.
I'd like to see some smoother execution across the board... one those o-fers was particularly bad blocking by the OG (I forget who was in, but they got sat, and 'coached')
So, there's some reasons why I chose middle of the road. :)

***Note: I dislike the smiley emoticon.... looks.... goofy****

out of 1116 opponents offensive plays. thats very good stat but we need to reel in the rest of those plays on defense.
