DJ, and nope I wouldn't have said it about TJ, he's at the top of his game and there are double standards.
Now when Minkah wasn't going to practice I would've told him the same thing I said about DJ. (Well I may have let Minkah do a sit in too, no reliable replacement for him).

DJ is in the 4th and final year of his contract. This is his rookie contract that he had ZERO part in negotiating its value.

Wrong time in his contract? Would a better time be after camp before week 1, or how about in the middle of the season? The Rooney's do have that rule that they will not negotiate during the season, so it is now or never.

I have no problem with players holding out during their rookie contracts. They didn't get to negotiate the contract, so why should they have to live up to it? I would have no problem if Joe Burrow decided to hold out this year.

I have no problems with DJ holding-out errr "holding-in." I think he's a good guy and wants to be here. He's giddy at what others are getting and I respect that. He's really opening the door for Austin, Pickens to make an impression. I wouldn't sign him until February/March. He has very little leverage and will lose it if the others behind him make impressions. This may just end up with his agent wanting him to ask to be traded.

    Dj....Is not TJ.
    1. We have not seen dj in this(new offense)
    2. We have not seen dj with these Qbs,and now apparently not even our coaches will.
    3. Dj is not the best Wr in the NFL.....TJ is the best edge rusher, and wasn't having 2 learn a new system.

looks like a preview for claypool next year. do we tie up a bunch of money for DJ and he gets outperformed by 3 others? he's not showing he can outperform them right now. TJ didn't have much behind him. DJ does. cutting off his nose to spite his face isn't a good idea. injury or not they have no idea how he will operate with the new QB's. nor does he. going into the draft say's you are willing to take the contract you don't negotiate. he did that, so honor that. let his agent handle the contract, he needs to handle his play.

Dionte and his agent are crazy if they think the Steelers are going to
give him top 10 wr wages. I could see him in the 18 mill range though.

Like I said. I am going to give it a few days before I label this a hold in.

People were up in arms thinking DJ was going to skip OTAs. He ended up showing up and participating.

For all we know he and the Steelers are very close to a deal and he is being precautious until the deal is finalized. It's all speculation at this point.

Claypool caught 2 Tds last year. He is going to need a monster comeback season to be able to demand any type of money on his next contract.

After a 2 TD season you have to be bat-sh*t crazy to call yourself a top 3 WR!

He can certainly try and use the Ben was washed excuse but he played very poorly last season regardless of who was throwing to him.

neither are top 3. He also had 9 the year before. In their first two years dj had 12 and claypool has 11. Bottom line is we have a possibility of 4 good receivers and you don't want to pay just one all the money. I believe that is the dilemma.

problem is he knows on the open market he could get this. Getting a contract ain’t just about what your current team will give you. It’s about what the market dictates you should get.

Let him go then, we will replace him. In the cap world you can't keep all the players you would like to.

    Because he agreed to it

He decided he wanted to play for the amount and terms he signed for

Yes he did get to decide this

    Nobody forced him

So, he could have went and played for Cleveland if he wanted to? NOPE
So, he could have signed for more money if he wanted to? NOPE

But, you can't blame the NFL on this whole SLAVERY type process. The NFL Rookie Contract thing is 100% the result of NFL Veteran Players getting upset by rookies like Mathew Stafford and Sam Bradford coming into the league and signing contracts for $70 and $76 million even before they had played a single down. (And this was way back when $70 and $76 million contracts were considered big :))

I don't have problems with players holding out on their Rookie Contracts, Option Years, or even the franchise Tags, because they were never asked how much do you want to Work for. That should be a question that everyone gets asked during the job interview process. Even the Fry Cook at McDonalds can say, "Well I want 50 Cents more per hour to take this job".
