Trubisky gonna shock the world! And we have a nice backup QB in Pickett. Best backup since Batch and Leftwich.

I just realized that over the last 5 years, Seattle has made the playoffs the same number of times as the Steelers (3), only has 1 more playoff win, and has 1 more losing season. This is despite Wilson playing in every game except for 3 last season, compared to Ben (injured 1 year, reduced physical ability in 2 other years).

Yet Ben started before either, and Won before either of those others.

Yup. Kurt Warner was the starter in NY and Drew Brees was the starter in San Diego. "Pro Ready" Philip Rivers threw a total of 8 passes his rookie season. "Pro Ready" Eli Rogers really didn't start until like week 10 or 11.

Tomlin, Khan and Rooney have their own plans. Whether or not those plans are correct are to be seen. Steelers could've drafted Peyton Manning in this year's draft and he would've been the #3 heading into camp. It is what it is. It has nothing to do with the player and more to do with their system. As Mike Tyson said, "everyone has a plan until they get punched in the mouth." Their system/plan could totally be flawed in theory.

The two things I am hoping for right now.

    1) Mason makes the 53 man roster and stays in Pittsburgh this year. (We carry 3 QBs on the 53 man roster)
    2) It truly is an open competition at QB and the best man wins.

I really wish the NFL would go back to having that Emergency 3rd String QB rule.

I believe it will be an open competition but I also believe Mason is not competing well and is falling back

What happens in practice now counts as much if not more than the little bit we will get to see in preseason games

Plus they will not draw the competition out long

In Bill Cowher’s book he talked about how you want to make a decision on starters soon enough so they have enough time to work together before the first game

I have a hard time imagining they would let Mason go and enter the season with Mitch and two guys who never have taken an nfl snap

There is no comparison between Mahomes and Pickett at comparable ages. The day I post this, Kenny Pickett is 24 years and 49 days old. When Patrick Mahomes was exactly that age, even with sitting out the year, he had started 24 NFL Games (winning 18) + 2 playoff games. His TD/INT ratio was 65/13 and he had won an MVP. It was pretty clear at that time that Mahomes was 'NFL ready'. On the day of the season opener in Mahomes rookie year, he hadn't turned 22. They could afford to have him sit a year. The longer Pickett sits around, the longer it is before they find out what they have, and the more they limit his potential.

So you believe that Pickett is a career backup or just has an NFL ceiling as one?

No...I'm saying we have 2 legit NFL QBs in Trubisky and Pickett. Batch and Leftwich were starters at one time for Lions and Jags. I believe these two will be better than Landry Jones and Mason Rudolph.

No because kyler, Trevor Lawrence, deshaun Watson, who were the few I just named have all started less than 5 years in the nfl. But if winning a sb is what makes someone a project by your logic, I guess the bengals still have a project on their hands in Joe burrow.

If you're saying right nowPickett is legit, I don't get why he isn't the day 1 starter.

And Andy Reid, kelce, hill, etc.. said from DAY 1 in practice they knew mahomes was that guy. Alex though was a pro bowl proven qb so they went with him.

Another great conversation about Mason from Ramon's podcast. Everything you hear about Mason's character just makes you want to root for the guy.

The segment is about Larry, but it ends up being all about Mason.

I have spoken about the expanded game day roster rule, but that 3rd Qb emergency rule made so much sense. You could keep a 3rd guy and develop him without fear he would get poached off PS, and dress someone else in an area you might have injury issues.

Root for Mike Tomlin, after all he's the Coach.

I actually hope Mason does win it. We know he may not be the QB of the future. But I don't want Mitch resurrecting his career and putting us in the dilemma of whether Pickett was a wasted pick. I don't want there to be any doubt when Pickett takes over.

None of the situations truly matter to me. I'm ok with any of the 3 becoming starter, as long as they're competent. Hell, if that means trading Pickett, so be it (and I'm a Pickett guy). I just want the best option starting that gives us the best shot at winning.
