I saw this today on a broadcast and was thinking it was just someone's personal odds, and then they pointed out this was coming from an online sportsbook.

1st, how can we be this far behind Cleveland.

2nd, These odds are just crazy to me. I think it is time to place an online bet. I don't think I have ever seen the Steelers odds at 10 to 1 just to win their Division.

I have a history of pessimism, but that's ridiculous. Steelers will surprise and finish at least 3rd in a very strong division. Wouldn't surprise me if Steelers WON the AFC North.

I wouldn't bet 2 win the division, but I will bet not 2 be last.
I would say We finish 2nd.
Unless all our Qbs really really suck.

If you think those odds are cheap, don’t whine about the disrespect your B&G heroes are getting, jump in the cheap odds! Living well is the best revenge.

Given how FanDuel and DraftKings work, I’m sure you can bet the proposition that the Steelers won’t finish last. Here’s your chance for financial security in a high inflation world with the stock market down 20%.

They are assuming Deshaun gets no games?? We could easily beat out Cleveland with Deshaun suspended 5 plus games and Baker refusing to play.

Online betting isn't about the actual odds, but how the bookies will make money based on the likely betting.

If the general perception is that the Browns are going to be a juggernaut this season (ignoring a likely Watson suspension, lost players in free agency, and that their talent on paper hasn't shown up for a full season), then the oddsmakers will take the true odds and then push it in Cleveland's favor.

The general public doesn't think the Steelers are losing 2021 Ben. They think the team is losing HoF-level (2014-ish) Ben.
The bookmakers use that perception when setting the Steelers odds.

Sort of correct, but general perception is not the guiding factor. It's how the sharps will bet. They drive the lines more than anyone because they put the most money down. The books want to even out the money. If a book doesn't set the line properly they'll get killed by the sharps. If the line on the Steelers is +1000 that means the guys that are the most successful and most dangerous from a book's standpoint think that the Steelers are a long shot. If they didn't those odds would be dropping fast cause the sharps jump all over any bet they see as value.

Even what you said is only "sort of correct".

"The sharp’s plays are often large enough to move betting lines at sportsbooks. Yet, by tracking sharp money plays, sportsbooks adjust lines to increase profits from the rest of the betting public, the squares.
"Professional gamblers are like private investors. They take great strides to remain anonymous to the public. Often, sharps use runners to place bets on their behalf to avoid detection from sportsbook oddsmakers."

At least according to this source, the general perception ("the squares") is a guiding factor precisely because they aren't knowledgeable about the true odds, and profits can be made from them.

I'll agree that it is in the best interest of bookmakers to be in the neighborhood of the correct odds, but they are adjusting the line based on how people are betting (which is based on perception for non-sharps), not because they have perfect knowledge of what the correct odds should be.

I think you're misinterpreting that sentence. The way they maximize profits from squares is by evening the action from sharps. They track the sharp action to make sure they don't get burned by it. They don't track square action, cause if they did that the sharps would bury them.

I quit betting on the Steelers the second Bubby Brister fumbled that low snap from Chuck Lanza in the AFC playoff game in 1990.

Lost a hundred dollars on a game I was sure they would have won and never bet another penny on my team. Felt like I jinxed them I guess.

On a side note. My apartment got completely wrecked by my drunk roommate and all the other drunk Steelers fans at that very moment.

I bet 4 times on the Steelers back in the 70’s

    Each time they won

Each time they did not cover the spread

Couldn’t make money betting on them

    Won’t bet against them

I see even keel 9-8 or 8-9, just saying because the last few years we have not really been that good and ended up there. Once the season starts they could easily project higher, but I do not see much lower.

I bet football....college, and pros, but I usually stay away from the Steelers....unless it's something like this.
Only thing I usually bet on the Steelers is....How many games won, or like this ....not finishing last.
With the Steelers...I bet with My heart, and not My head, and that's not good.
So it's easier 2 bet on other teams during the season.

Those odds are insane. I think Tiger Woods has 100-1 odds to win British Open. After all he's been through I find that respectful. The Steelers at 1000 is disrespectful or maybe it's giving an aging Ben to much respect.

When the Japs bombed PH the Admiral of the fleet feared he woke a sleeping giant, well that is going to be the 2022 Steelers.

8-8-1 so MT maintains his never-had-a-losing-season streak. But the MT apologists will glom onto to that ignoring a 6th straight season without a playoff win.

I couldn't wager on the Steelers winning the division, there's too many if's.

The Steelers are always competitive and for a small market team, that's good.
It is so hard to build a consistent team with such parity. The way to do it is constantly use the draft.
The Patriots scored a great combination with Front Office people, a Head Coach and owner willing to let them run the franchise.
That and a streak of crazy like ineptness and futility by the others in that division. It's finally showing signs of righting in that division.
The Steelers remain in the race but maybe because of their reluctance to get a deal for an Arron Donald keeps them just shy of the big time.
I certainly do not endorse signing every big name in the off season, but sometimes you just need that extra boost and probably need to make such a move.

QB scares me the most right now.
Next up would be the Front Office. I liked Colbert a lot, and I hope the new crew can take it up a notch.

There are so many moving parts at the moment, it's a very fluid situation.
I'll be glad when we can get a peek during preseason. I can stand there melting in the sun all day at training camp watching and the players will look good
but come game time, they suck.

I don’t know. +1000 implies 10/1 odds, meaning the Steelers have a 10% chance of winning the division. Maybe that chance seems too small, but I gotta think Cincy and Balt have a way better chance. I don’t know that at the most optimistic I give Pitt at 20% chance of winning the AFCN. I don’t think those odds are insane or disrespectful at all.

As for the “sleeping giant”, I’ve been hearing for yrs now that PO loss to NE or the Jesse James play or the lose to Jax or that Ben won’t want to go out with a lose like Cle, etc, etc and that this team was pissed off and had a point to prove this year. I suppose the giant might wake up eventually.

Plus a Head Coach and Owner both willing to not only push the limits of the rules (which was smart), but deliberately cheat, even against much weaker teams.

I thought about pulling the trigger on this last night, but can't do this until I know if DJ is going to be in a Steeler Uniform this year.

Right now there are just to many articles out there of DJ being traded away for a 2023 draft pick, and if this happens we will be in a fight for last place with the Browns for sure.

I was able to replicate the +1000 at Caesars.
