Is that good, bad or indifferent?

Profootball reference has him at 36 TDs and 28 picks. Which I wouldn’t think is great.

As good as Ben was he rarely played well in the post season. He did win 2 superbowls but his individual play was not always great. That pass to Holmes to the side of the endzone was a thing of beauty though. There just weren't that many of those types of throws.

You mean the pass into double/triple coverage? Probably not the best decision by a qb, but it worked out this time. Personally the catch was better than the throw. I’ve never looked at the all22 of that play, but I’m betting there was someone else WIDE OPEN.

I think there were lower risk throws but no sure TD's as the Holmes throws. Not saying the throw to Holmes was a for sure score just it was in the endzone and not outside it hoping for a dive or stretch or whatever over the line.

It really is interesting that the games Ben had the most success in, were ones where they flipped the script. The Colts game they came out throwing and jumped out to a lead instead of establishing the ground game with Parker/Bettis/Staley. The following week in Denver he again was throwing.

There was no one else open that I can see. That pass was a great throw and Holmes delivered a great catch. I suppose you are unwilling to give Ben any credit there at all but I've already agreed with you on his play in the preseason. There's no way you can criticize that pass or catch. It was one of the best plays I'd ever seen. So I guess we'll just disagree.

My biggest problem with Ben throughout his career was his unwillingness to study opponents and prepare for games. He was always relying on his natural God given talent and this reflected in the post season more than at any other time. I remember his early quote saying that he wanted to surpass Terry Bradshaw and his 4 Super Bowl Championships. He really should have taken his game much more seriously and he just may have accomplished that feat. I am glad he was a Steeler though delivering us 2 out of 3 Super Bowls. I think when he looks back he will be somewhat disappointed with his overall accomplishments. JMHO.

The Santonio Holmes TD pass in the SB was as clutch as any NFL moment ever.

I agree with your statement whole heartedly but it does beg the question if he did prepare even to half as much as Peyton did would he still be who he was? It was one of those unknowables that I was hoping to find out as father time diminished his skills and a smarter player would need to step up. We never got to see it though.

This is my gripe with Ben

He took the money but never gave his best effort and he bragged about it like it was a good thing

He is as responsible as anyone for no playoff wins in 5 years

There are really only a few post season games I blame Ben for, but a lot of it to me was the defense wasn’t good enough or injuries derailed the team.

Only one team wins the Superbowl, and the stars need to align to do it.

That's 36 passing Tds, 26 ints, 3 rushing TDs, and 6 fumbles lost in 23 games.

    Peyton Manning 40 tds 26 ints, 3 rushing Tds,and 11 fumbles. In 27 games.

    Terry Bradshaw 30 Tds, 26 ints, 3 rushing tds, and 10 fumbles...in 19 games.

Tom Brady 86 Tds , 39 ints, 7 rushing tds, and 15 fumbles. In 47 games.

    So Your point is????
If You figure them all by games played... they all are close.
So either they all suck, or they all are Great

People love to put the lack of playoff success squarely on Tomlin. Perhaps this post is showing that a lion's share of the blame falls on Ben.

You hit that on the head. Many blame Tomlin on wasting Ben's career. Ben himself is responsible for that. Interceptions happen and it is part of the game. He responded well with most of them, but you are right.... he was not a student of the game and was not known for his preparation.

Did you skip my comment....So apparently Peyton Manning wasn't a student of the game either.

Okay I was somewhat with you until this. That pass along with that drive was stuff that legends are made. Great drive, great throw, and great catch. If you remember Holmes dropped the pass before the TD catch on the opposite side of the endzone.

I recently watched the years highlight film and Ben admitted that throw was a bad decision that didn’t turn out to be bad

I did nothing of the sort. It’s a team sport and winning super bowls is a function of the team as a whole not an individual accolade. Thanks for playing though
