I'm assuming he's pushing for more guaranteed money up front. He's slotted at 14 million I think? The Steelers don't normally do this with first round draft picks. Interesting his agent has taken this approach.

He will get what he is offered

    Rookies have little wiggle room

They may have just waited for the new GM to get in place

They seem to be working bottom up

I'm not worried about it, he will get signed by training camp.

In this day and age it's called a smart move. 1st QB taken in the draft is worth a bundle.

Is there a way for a 1st round player to somehow sign a contract that does not include a 5th year option?

Yes. There's not much negotiating whiggle room at play. I'm sure this situation is nothing.

Glad the CBA changed what rookies could get. Was insane the amount of $ being thrown at players who could very well be busts.

    As for Pickett:

With Pickett, who will sign a four-year deal worth $14 million fully guaranteed, there’s really only one issue possible, the structure of the payments. The standard rookie contract entails a signing bonus and four years of base salary. But several players now negotiate for large roster bonuses at the beginning of training camp, and minimum salaries. The money is equal, but the players get more up front. However, the Steelers have never agreed to that structure for first-round picks.

I agree with that part of the CBA. Like the article said that you quoted the steelers have never given more up front money for a draft pick and won't now. He'll sign

If he throws a bunch of INTs he might just have to do that. Hope not.

Didn't say he would get more money. I said he probably wanted more of that money up front

I said he was going to get 14 millionn which he was slotted. I said he wanted more of the money up front. So you go back and read the thread again. I'm done arguing
