They changed a rule because of him for Jiminy Christmas

I read a story about Blount sleeping in a DB meeting

The DB coach was going over the height weight and speed of the opposing receivers

Blount kept snoozing so the coach threw an eraser at him

Blount looked up and said I’m 6-3 205 and I can run as fast as I want to

Your list is as good as the 'experts'. I don't get excited about this crap as the period played for each player is generally different. Could probably easily find 5 other names and place them in your 10 and it would be a worthy argument. That said yourvtop 5 is pretty stellar.

I judge greatest defensive player as being the same as being the one who causes the most disruption/chaos to the opposition offense.

I saw Smith`s career. Not enough for top 10, a little lower, maybe 13 or 14.

I understand CB`s who were game disrupters making the list, but they are not in the play usually unless the ball is thrown near them. Woodson however did more than play CB. Him and Deion were major disruptors and correctly ranked higher than Lot who was awesome, but less disrupting compared to those two IMO.

Therefor my list regarding the DB`s would have Dion and Woodson 8 and 9 and Lot 10. Players at the line get the other 7 positions.

Definitely got to put Lambert and Seau on the list IMO. Huge game disrupters.

    No Donald, too early.

Mean Joe was on such a great team, I understand him not making it. He was the greatest Steeler of all time, but I think Lambert caused more disruption to the opposition.

Taylor was the greatest defensive player I ever saw. Mother of all game disruptors.

    So here is my list:

    1. Lawrence Taylor
    2. Reggie White
    3. Ray Lewis
    4. Deacon Jones
    5. Dick Butkus
    6. Junior Seau
    7. Jack Lambert
    8. Deion Sanders
    9. Rod Woodson
    10. Ronnie Lot

It is hard for me to put DB’s in the top 10 especially when you compare them with players from an older era when the run game was more prominent and the pass game was significantly less than what it is now.

This thought would make sense regarding Blount if well it actually made sense

Apparently you are young and don’t know about Blount

Mean Joe Green should be in the top 10 over Woodson.

@SteelerGlenn Who would you rank as the #1 all time defensive player?
White first nine seasons in the NFL he had double digit sacks, he's also the only player ahead of TJ with most sacks in their first five years in the league.

Jack lambert over ray Lewis any day. And I'm not saying that as a homer.

That's what I use for my criteria. While guys played in multiple eras, there's certain guys no matter what Era they played in regards to rules and everything they'd be just as good. While others if you put them in now I don't think they'd be just as good like dick butkus for example.

I am 51. I barely remember him. But I went back and looked at his stats and I didn’t realize how productive he was just in interceptions. I know he was a thumper and huge, but I can’t put him above Woodson. The problem is with most of those Steelers from the 70’s they were ll so dang good and on a dominant team, especially defensively so it is hard sometimes to separate the player from the defense when evaluating them. CB’s still are so hard to evaluate from the era because even the TV Cameras didn’t focus on them unless there was an actually play there direction. Now you have so many angles, and forms of media to evaluate players it is much easier to get a true feel for a player. Looking back now there aren’t even the many highlights of Blount. All the highlights seems to be of Greene or Lambert.

I vaguely remember him. I was so young. Back then I was all about Bradshaw and Swann. I didn’t come to appreciate Defense until I got older. I think it was Greg Lloyd who turned me into a defensive fan.

He would be amazing today. I wonder what his 40 time was, not that matters but would be interesting to know.

Again a list with no M. Blount....is useless.
Again they changed the rules because of Him.
    D. Sanders, or Woodson can't say that.
