    Do you watch the games

If so you are adding to the tv revenue package based on viewership ratings

The "I pay your salary" or "I pay for this building or service with my taxes" is something I just can never wrap my head around. So if the fans drive the league with the power of the dollar then why aren't they insisting on free seats, high speed internet in the stadiums, full time and heavily regulated refs who are graded every game, no Thursday or Sunday night football and indoor stadiums with air conditioning? To me I don't walk into the police station and demand they give me a universal parking pass because I pay taxes. It just reminds me of how Lars Ulrich was trying to explain what was wrong with napster back in the day. Maybe Im over thinking it.

we discussed that too, because in order to view the money I pay for cable TV as going to the NFL, I'd have to break it down into how much time I actually spend watching vs all other non NFL viewing. TV deals are based on advertising money as Mac is referring to, ratings and numbers allow them to pitch those numbers at companies who are looking to buy advertising time. Budwieser invests heavily in order to drive sales, so if 30 million people watch and maybe 3 million buy their product it is a great investment. In my case if you look at the viewership in my household more money is paid to Disney than any other thing, second would be microsoft because of the xbox. Im not driven by ads in my consumer purchases. I drink Mello Yello a lot and they haven't advertised since Earnst was big and Days of Thunder was a hit movie. Burger King is my favorite restaurant because I love a good whopper. I bought a 2012 Ram 1500 because Ive always wanted a truck and it was under 20K. Nothing driven by NFL games or what I see on screen.

    Yes

But your watching creates tv rates which drives commercial dollar costs which pays the nfl

    It’s a simple formula

You don’t have to buy Budweiser

    You had the game on

As a fan you supported the nfl

not all the games are on cable tv. you do buy things that they advertise don't you. insurance? beer? gasoline? occasional burger king or mcdonalds? anything they advertise goes into helping pay for the team in the way of tv revenue. if not good for you thorn. you are one of the few my friend. :hi::cool:

Did I though? or did I support women's basketball and Lacrosse? Did I support the forced relocation of indigenous people and the cultural misappropriation of the same people meanwhile tacitly agreeing with the negative stereotypes of the same because I never objected the the Washington Redskins and basically agreeing with years of sexual misconduct in their organization because I watch football on TV? It's possible I suppose, it could be that I have some soul searching to do and might need to change my viewing habits.

this is all theoretical right? I mean we aren't really supposing that watching football means that we are the driving force behind the game are we?

I couldn’t care less about what Tuitt made sitting out or any other player. I don’t sit there and fret, “my damn money is going to waste!” I mean WFT really?

Yes, I'm quite sure if every fan never bet on or watched another game live or in person, nor ever bought another piece of merchandise, the league would continue to thrive. We are totally meaningless to the league. Corporations would continue to dump billions into ads for games carried on cable and network TV that no one is watching or wagering on. Thanks for the clarification. Now I understand.

So McDonald's is a Fast Food Restaurant. The largest Fast Food chain Restaurant in the world. But like any restaurant, McDonald's is completely dependent on customers continuing to eat at the establishment in order to profit. No customers = No McDonalds

This goes for any business. If I owned a construction company, with no clients, would I be making any money?

All any of us are saying is that the NFL is driven by revenue that comes almost entirely from it's fans. Fans watch the games = ratings. Fans go to the games = ticket sales, parking, concessions, etc.

You are taking this to very deep levels. I do not think anyone is suggesting that we go into Heinz and demand free hotdogs because our money paid for the wieners.

It is a catch 22 in my case Mac. I do buy somethings that are advertised during games but as I was trying to illustrate I buy those things because of other reasons than the advertising. If I was being generousI would say from 1992 till today I have spent under 600 dollars on the NFL and related services. THe bulk of that coming in 2005 when I had bought tickets to the Steelers at the Vikings for my dad and I. That I think was money well spent, but I don't think at any point that I would view that as driving the league or enough that I should be able to make noise about the team. Those of you who do have season tickets and do pay a lot, you guys have a stone to grind I won't say a bad word about you venting, just for me I don't have that kind of investment.

To @TuRnDoWnForWaTT@TuRnDoWnForWaTT @Blast Furnace@Blast Furnace , @mac daddyo@mac daddyo , @jeh1856@jeh1856 and anyone else I was having this discussion with, don't mind me, I took some time away from the board for personal reasons and a month or so with out arguing can make stuff pile up. I hope everyone is good and that we have a good season.

I think the Napster thing is completely different. I like Metallica, however I think Ulrich is a grade A douche who happened to be 100% correct, even though I was one of the ones taking full advantage of sharing and downloading music on that site back then. I kind of figured it was only a matter of time before some of the talent that created that music that I and others were sharing for free raised hell about it. They own the rights to their music and they have every right to expect to be paid through album sales no matter how the media is generated, whether purchased on line and downloaded or at Wal Mart in the form of a CD.

The Steelers wouldn't be in on it if he was faking a knee injury , they would get in big trouble from the league.
