That's ridiculous. It really is none of our business period. You don't like the product do not spend the money, I think the NFL will survive. Yes we as fans have an interest, but to suggest we have a right to know the why or timing of a very personal decision is nonsense.

If you want to retire, go ahead. Lucky for you, you've made enough money that you should never HAVE to work again.

But, I don't see anything "brave" about it. Both of my parents were dead before I hit 20. And I didn't have 20 million dollars in the bank. I had sh**.

Sorry guys, I'm not going to award this millionaire "strongest person of the year" over his retirement. You're retired, congratulations . You've shown ZERO strength at all through this whole thing.

You've gone into hiding for almost 2 years, and then quit.

I knew the knee thing was bulls***. Good luck in your endevors.

    Next man up. Moving on.

Not surprised. That Leal pick is looking pretty good at this time. I feel that they knew something could have transpired.

When healthy he was a beast. But his injury history got in the way.

I wish him the best getting on with his Life's Work.

If Stephon Tuitts situation is none of our business than neither is Diontae Johnson's. AB and LeVeon Bell's situation was also none of our business. Hell, why even have a message board? No sense in discussing anything Steeler related. It's none of our business. No point in speculating on who is going to be the starting quarterback this season, really is none of our business. Next year come April, no mock drafts please. None of us work for the Steelers, so it really is none of our business.

Your whole point in this argument is pretty weak. This is a Steeler discussion board. We all have the right to comment on Tuitt if we wish too. Everyone here has been pretty considerate of Tuitt's situation. The fact that he kept the Steelers hanging for so long rubs some, including myself, the wrong way. To suggest that we have no right to an opinion, because the situation is none of our business is just plain silly.

BTW, there is nothing you wrote in your last sentence that I ever wrote, or even really inferred.

It is certainly frustrating being a fan. He had so much talent but it always seemed like he couldn’t stay on the field for a mutlitiude of reasons. The Steelers have had a string of bad luck with Antonio Brown, Leveon Bell, Tuitt and even Dupree. I thought Dupree would at least throw back a third rounder comensatory pick but he couldn’t;t stay on the filed at TN so we missed out on that. The Steeler way certainly creates loyalty amongst our players but in some ways had we traded players for draft capital I can’t help but feel we would be better off. It really stinks we didn’t know about this sooner... the organization perhaps could have traded. picked up a free agent sooner when more were available or drafted a defensive lineman perhaps in the second round.

Exactly where in the hell do you think the money comes from? You think the Rooneys just have a magic money tree that drops it on the ground? The fans are where their money comes from, without us they have nothing

Money from fans(ticket sales, concessions etc) is peanuts compared to tv deals etc. In short they have found a way. Your meager contribution doesn’t even pay for the footballs they use.

Ticket sales is a very small piece of the pie. Most of it come from TV deals.

Edit: I see Strummer beat me to this.

They talked about this last season on nfl/Sirius XM radio.
The players and the salary cap money is all done via the TV deals/ radio.
The owners get paid from ticket sales, concessions, merchandise etc etc.

I'm sure the networks don't care about the number of people watching when they sign those contracts.

you realize that money for tv deals comes from advertising that people buy those products and also everything NFL licensed that fans buy. tickets and seating license included.

60,000 X 125.00 X 9 = 67,500,000 from ticket sales per year average. that doesn't count food, drink, parking passes, and anything else people buy that is licensed by the NFL. then consumers that aren't even football fans pay for the TV money that comes from ads. it is very much fan driven, make no mistake. that doesn't even account for tax revenue paying for most stadiums.

Just a thought but is the fact he announced this on June 1 less of a coincidence and more of a behind the scenes conversation with the Steelers.

Time for our Assistant GM to trade for Javon Hargrave and bring him back to Pittsburgh. It only makes sense.

    https://lwosports.com/2020/06/26/nfl-makes-billion-from-six-sources/

ticket sales and merchandise make up a smaller portion of team revenue than what we would expect. This article estimates that if you charge 100 bucks per ticket and your stadium seats 70,000 then you make 7 million off ticket sales for every home game which is then added to the general revenue fund and also has to be used for expenses during that game such as upkeep, staffing, cleaning, money to the local police for security and so on. So if your salary cap is 250 million dollars for just fielding your team the chances for profit off ticket sales are slim.

in order for that to be a valid point then every fan of every team must be upset enough at money paid to players and not being given information about the players personal lives that they all simultaneously stop watching football forever. Otherwise it just doesn't hold water. Personally I'd take your point of view so that if I bought a Tom Brady jersey it should give me the right to conjugal visits with his wife right? That is a platform I can get behind

Okay the banging Tom Brady's wife part of your post I can get on board with. :lolol: But that's about it.

You went a little deeper here then you needed to. The point that I, and others are trying to make is that the NFL is financed almost completely by fan dollars. No fans - No NFL. I am not suggesting the fans boycott in order to understand Tuitt's feelings better.

I had this conversation with Glenn two seasons ago Mac. I think it was two maybe it was three. I literally spend zero dollars on the NFL, they make no money off of anything in my life. The small exception recently was that I spent 6 dollars in the official Steelers team shop because the magnet logo my Dad had gotten me years ago washed off my truck and I wanted to replace it. Other than that I don't buy products advertised on TV, I don't pay for tickets, i fund some Chinese person's way of life with my jersey purchases, and dont really pay for cable TV. so my footprint in the NFL in the last 15 years is 6 dollars.
