That’s a $9MM piece of information that would have been useful at the start of free agency

I know Tuitt has been through a lot. This doesn't help us out at all. Will have to really hope that Loudermilk blossoms year 2 and we avoid injuries.

Thinking his knee must have some serious issues and he doesn't want to risk further.

It's a tough and bitter pill to swallow.
I think I am like many here, thought this would be the outcome.
He's gone through some issues, and I applaud him for sticking with his dreams.
I do kind of wish it had come sooner though. So be it.

I personally honor and respect his decision. Never easy losing a family member; losing one after recovering from an injury no less. I would like to thank him for his performance and service to the community of Pittsburgh. Going to miss him for certain.

Thank you for everything you have done Mr. Tuitt!!! Best wishes and continue to live a happy, healthy life!! :steelflag::steelflag:

That's a tough one...... I had huge hopes for him after his breakout season... Tuitt and Heyward had the makings of the best bookends in the league, but clearly, his heart wasn't in it after his brother's tragic (and still unsolved) death..... I wish him well and hope he finds peace

I'm really glad that people can once again get on with their lives and stop worrying about some else's employment and the money they don't pay for that person's employment. It is a real comfort having that worry removed from us.

Best of luck to you Stephon, nothing but good wishes for you and your family. Thank you for all you did.

Not really. He was going to be a post June 1 cut/retirement regardless. Post-June 1 it's 4.9mm dead money this season.

We (the fans) are the least important people that needed to have an answer in this situation.

I think we will be alright. Heyward, Alualu, Loudermilk, Wormley, Davis and Adams is a pretty solid crew

You could see this coming. I hope Leal is the player I think he can be.

Good luck to you, Tuitt. As a ND fan I was ecstatic when the Steelers drafted you and you didn’t disappoint.

    I hope you find peace.

Wishing him the best, but the timing sucks! Hicks has been linked to the Steelers and on 93.7 the Fan... They had a strong feeling that Hicks would have signed here...If this was announced, even just a few days ago...

    * Use Tuitts money to help towards a Minkah contract?

As soon as NFL teams figure out a way to pay grieving defensive ends 9 million dollars without any revenue from fans, you let me know.

This notion that Tuitt's situation is none of our business because we are just lowly fans, doesn't hold any weight. You could say that about any situation regarding a player.

Also trying not to be bitter. I will wish Tuitt nothing but the best in his retirement. But I have to admit the way this all played out irks me a bit

I'm thinking Steelers knew about Tuitt's decision for awhile, and they decided they are good with Wormley and drafting Leal.

That is what I was thinking. If he had submitted his retirement papers in March could he have even been counted a June 1st cut/retiremen? Have no idea if this discussion came up in discussions with him, but officially retiring on the day helps the team.

I hope you are right. If he told the team this was coming before the draft, but waited until now to make it official, he did it the right way. He has every right to decide to retire if he doesn't want to play any more.

That said, if he he waited until it was too late for the team to address the situation in free agency after the team was kind enough to pay him to do nothing last season, that was a thoroughly ****ty way for him to handle things.

Unfortunately, I doubt we will ever know what really happened.
