Can anyone on this board tell me more about this guy?

I remember watching him with the Patriots, and I though he did good. I personally think he will be better then Batch and Leftwich.

MSU was his college team. He was undrafted and signed as UDFA by the Pats in 2009. Had very limited play and stayed for one year after they drafted Mallet as Brady's BU, then cut.

His ability to grasp this offense could be the ability to play himself onto the roster for next year. Batch is getting old. Lefty can't stay healthy. The Steelers are going to need a backup. It is something which will need to be addressed in a big way this offseason.

he threw for 2,404 yards and nine TDs as a senior (not very impressive) Overall he ranks among MSU's career leaders in passing yards (No. 3 with 6,159), pass completions (No. 3 at 500), TD passes (No. 6 with 35) and completion percentage (No. 10 at .559) He was one of just three Spartan quarterbacks to record 6,000 career passing yards

i'm really suprised we didn't put kafka or bring back JJ to the practice squad to at least let someone start to learn our offense just incase. this should have been done last week. i have a bad feeling they are going to rush ben back before he is ready. never fails.

No he was undrafted. Kafka was the one drafted in the 4th round (by the Eagles).

The Post Gazette messed me up I guess! Here's where I read the 4th round thing....

    About those quarterbacks ...

Like Burress, new Steelers quarterback Brian Hoyer also played at Michigan State. The
New England Patriots drafted him in the fourth round in 2009, but, after three seasons with them, let him go.

He managed to play in 13 games for the Patriots, completing 27 of 43 passes for 286 yards, one touchdown and one interception.

He was No. 3 in New England but will back up Batch when the Steelers play the Browns Sunday because their other two quarterbacks are out with shoulder and rib injuries.

I thought I remembered hearing that he was really impressive in the preseason when he was with the Pats, and there was talk for a while about him being flipped for draft picks (like Matt Cassel was). I could be wrong about that though.

I live in New England, and therefore have to hear more about that team than I deserve. Anyway, as mentioned, Hoyer was very impressive in the preseason at times, and there was some surprise when he was cut this year. It may though that he was a "system" Qb like Cassel, who won't look as good in a less potent offensive surrounding.
