Trubisky didn’t exactly set the world on fire either.

Trubisky starts and Mason will not be traded but will be #2 unless Pickett surprises and Oladokun on the practice squad

this is howI think the season starts but things could change mid season

Theres no way a first rd pick will start the season as the 3rd string QB.

He will need to be number two just to get reps in.

1st - They will have to know the playbook.
2nd - they have to apply it on the practice field.
They will have OTA's to walk through drills to determine progress.
They have to take the coaching - do what they are coached to do.
When St Vincint's camp opens, that's where the competition heats up.

I expect Mitch to open preseason and get a good half.
I would figure Mason would start the 2nd half and Pickett in the 4th. (Unless he really flashes in training camp)

The big thing with rookies is that they will make mistakes. That is going to happen.
What you don't want to see is the same mistakes repeated.

I really think the job is Mitch's to lose.
Average to Bad play by him and solid play by Pickett will get him put on the bench.
I figure if we see Pickett starting the 2nd preseason game, things are not going well for Mitch.
I would imagine that they do want to get Pickett some game snaps with the 1st team, and they might be game 3 of preseason.

But it really boils down to what they are seeing on the practice field.

As a side note: I gotta say, Kenny looks pretty smooth out there. But so does Mitch.
I have no idea how this turns out but hoping for the best. It is no fun going back to the drawing board.

Not at al surprised If Kenny makes it to the field this year it will be because Trubisky is injured or is unsuccessful.

If you don’t want the rookie taking the first snap of the season you don’t want him taking the second.

If Mitch is number one he will miss snaps. Maybe a shoe comes off. Maybe a jammed finger. It will happen. It could happen on the second play of the game. You want the guy coming in to know how to play QB in the nfl.

Mason should be number 2 to start. If the kiddie learns something along the way maybe then he moves to number 2.

You guys are dreaming, he’ll be no worse that #2.

Also making this out to be rocket science and not football. He’s been playing his whole life and QBs are drafted every year that start day one. I’m sure Pickett will be able to come in as the #2 if need be and give them what Rudolph could.

I figure Pickett's battle for position is #1 or #3.
    Of course, the obligatory conditionals...
If Kenny just plays lights out, then everything changes.

ok, I now see your earlier prediction of Mason being traded for a 5th

i don't know I still not sure what they do with Mason - all three are in open competition mode

I thought Ben started as a 3rd string QB his rookie year.

I thought Batch was injured in Preseason and then "WrongWay" Tommy was injured during the regular season?

In preseason for what that is worth. I would expect Pickett to be #3 as well.

That’s different then how the order will shake out when camp breaks.

I have Trubisky starting the season because I have a feeling he is going to play very well but I will not be surprised if Pickett gets the ball out of the gate. I will be very surprised if he is the #3 when the season starts.

If both Rudolph and trubisky are better then Pickett he will be number three. With the limits on the number of practices and the length the team has to go with the best now. The offseason and training camp is when they get to learn and improve.

Mason will win the job and Pickett will redshirt. Trubisky won't play unless Mason gets hurt

Pickett would have to be awful, like really really embarrassingly awful. In which case they have a bigger problem then the depth chart.

Mason probably won’t even be here.

Then you haven't been paying attention to the way this organization operates. Clearly they value Mason and still see him as a potential franchise quarterback. Trubisky is just an insurance policy and Pickett will start in a couple years or will be trade bait if Mason proves how good he can be.

I think y’all are delusional with this trade bait idea. Mason isn’t good enough to be our #2 so we will trade him to some sucker

Yes, they value Mason so much the extended him for all of one year. Mason has no future on this team.

Perhaps you missed when they got a 5th for Dobbs.

Mason got one year because he has no leverage. Why would they offer a lucrative extension before he proves it on the field. When he has a great year he will get the franchise tag next offseason until they can work out a long term deal.
