Sucks for those kids that he didn't make it. Maybe it really was just a flight issue?

He did say he was going to reschedule the event sometime between now and camp. Hopefully he holds himself to that.

"A representative of Johnson’s said Monday that his travel was delayed by weather and that they plan to make it up to the kids with a free event sometime between now and when the Steelers begin training camp."

Give the guy a chance to make it up.

Why would we do that when we can criticize him now for something that was totally out of his control?

Choosing to fly in the day of the event was out of his control? I don’t think it is a big deal as long as he makes good on his promise of a free event to make up for it, but I’m not sure he planned this the best way possible.

Just my opinion, I hope they don't give stone hands an extension especially the money he wants.

He lead the NFL with 13 dropped passes in 2020 (per Pro Football Reference), Diontae Johnson improved in 2021 by cutting that number down to 5 in 2021, but that probably doesn't include the couple he dropped against the Chiefs in the playoffs.

Is that enough facts for you ?

That was my thought as well. If this was truly a flight issue, it could have been avoided by simply flying in the day or night before the event. Whomever this representative of Johnson is, that issued the statement, should have did a better job with the itinerary.

Considering he had flight issues I don't care much about this one. As long as he makes it up later for the kids.

How presumptuous. You have no idea what is going on in Johnsons life.

Airlines cancel flights at the drop of a hat now, I deal with it all the time with clients trying to get home. And its not just an hour delay, sometimes its days. Maybe Johnson should have flown in a month earlier just in case.

I called this in 2020 that some fans will never get past that season, no matter how few balls he drops now, he will always be stone hands to some.

Some really put the fanatic in fans.

I want the Steelers to win more than anyone, if he would accept maybe 10-12 million a year he would be good.
Not worth crazy money to me, with his history.
WR's are not that hard to replace.

The parents and kids were not informed that Diontae Johnson was not going to be there until everyone was already there. This clearly wasn't a case of the flight being cancelled days earlier. Even if the flight had been cancelled the day before, that would have been ample time to inform these families of the no-show.

As long as DJ lives up to his word and puts on a makeup event for these kids, I have no issue. I will take Johnson's Rep at his word about the flight issues. That doesn't excuse Johnson for flying in for the event the day of, which was also my take from the article.

His flight was cancelled the day of, how do you guys know he could have flown in earlier?

It’s not at all unreasonable to fly in the day of. Pretty standard. Blame the airlines.

Yes, airlines do cancel flights at the drop of a hat now, which is why it isn't the best idea to fly the day of an event. If he had tried to get there the day before the event and flight issues got in the way, then I would not question his planning.

I also wrote that I don't think it is a big deal as long as he keeps his promise to make it up.

These camps are usually marketed as "The Diontae Johnson Youth Football Camp", or something of that nature. These guys get paid a nice chunk of change to put their name on, and show up for these camps. Being that there are kids involved who would no doubt be disappointed by his absence, I would think flying in a little early would be a priority.

I am not knocking the guy for having flight issues. I'm just not willing to absolve him of blame either, as poor planning contributed to him not being there. His rep said he will make it up. As long as he does, I think all will be forgiven.
