He brings that athleticism to the position that the team could use with the pass protection problems the Steelers have. FWIW on ESPN Stephen A Smith said the same thing he liked Dixon and they should've kept him over Leftwich. I'm tired of Leftwich anytime he gets on the field he gets hurt scores a td and hurts himself falling in the endzone the guy is just awkward, and all the times he gets injured in the preseason. Batch and Leftwich are too similar I don't see why you need both of them on the team.

Dixion's athletic ability was questionable, he not only didn't have vision but he proved fragile as well, not a good thing when you have an oline that lets rushers come free as much as our oline does. Dixion wasn't accurate throwing and they left him go as he didn't have what it takes to even be a reliable back up. Leftwich is too slow for our oline and I agree with that but Batch has played well when called upon, in fast he went 3 and 1 as a starter when Ben was serving his suspension.

Dixon didn't even WANT to be here. He felt he would get a chance to start elsewhere.

Dixon never worked out for one reason or another and it doesn't surprise me that he is gone. Lefty and Batch have experience on their sides.

no Dixon should not still be in Pittsburgh. athletic qbs that cant throw do not work in the NFL. maybe for a game or 2 and yes maybe they get real lucky in a playoff game (Tebow), but for the most part the NFL is a passing league.

there are 2 types of qbs that are successful in todays NFL.

the pure pocket passer that is very smart at reading defenses and gets the ball out very quick: Brady, P Manning, Brees, Shaub to name a few.

and then there are the qbs that are mobile and move the pocket to extend the play and can run if needed: Ben, Rogers, Luck, Dalton, Flacco, Cutler to name a few.

then theres the 3rd type. the super athletic type that can run and pass: Vick, RG3, Newton. thats the category that Dixon probably would fall into. although he is not on the same level as any of those guys. 2 of those 3 guys are struggling this year and RG3 is just a freak right now. lets see how he does next year. remember Newton was doing everything RG3 is doing now last year.

Batch should have started against the Ravens. if he isnt competent and the coaches have no faith in him than he shouldnt be on the team.

Why anyone wouldn't jump at the chance to play for the Steelers is beyond me.

He thought he was starter material and knew he would not beat out Ben. Apparently no one else thinks he is starter material.

If I remember the Steelers wanted to retain Dixon...he wanted a chance to play....I don't blame him for that. He is a young guy who should be entering his prime both physically and if all goes well financially. That is the beauty of Lefty and Batch...both have started and won playoff games elsewhere.....Both shopped their wares via FA...and 32 teams said we will make you our backup at best. So they come to Pitt to sit behind Ben...and be one snap away and ready to play.

Well, Dixon signed with the ravens just before his game and he will be back on the streets this week. Or they might just keep him until after we play them again. He doesn't know our system and definitely will not learn it quick enough to win us any games. Jerrod Johnson, David Gerrard or Tyler Palko looks like our choices. I think Palko almost beat us and he knows Haley's system.

I still dont understand why they cut him. Worse case they shouldve put him on the practice squad learning the system.

loyalty. the Steelers franchise is loyal to its veterans to a fault sometimes. Batch should already be a coach. Johnson and Lefty should have been battling for the backup job.

Dennis Dixon will not be a starter anywhere in this league. If he's on the Rats practice squad eventhough he has on field experience in the regular season that should tell you all you need to know about him. He had a style that was fit for college but not for the big leagues.
