i was wondering the same thing. as hurt as Lefty appeared to be i was waiting for Tomlin to make the change. its not like Lefty is Ben and a 75% Ben is better than a 100% lefty or Batch.

i cant imagine that Batch would be in the dog house. maybe they just dont have any confidence in him and he is being kept just as a player coach unofficially.

This article is SPOT on and exactly how I feel...if Tomlin pulls either QB, we win those games. He blew it big time.

No...and its stupid to think so....If Tomlin does not want Batch...he just cuts him and rolls with Johnson or Dixon before him. Tomlin loves Charlie...I guarantee it.

Well theres something going on there Hack because he doesn't put him in unless he has no one else to go to. Which is odd because Charlie has done well when called upon.

Tomlin has been spoiled, in that he hasn't had many quarterback decisions to make. I must say, I was disappointed in both the SF and Ravens game that the injured and ineffective QB wasn't pulled. In both instances, Batch could have come in and been just as bad. So be it. There's also the chance that he could have come in and sparked the offense. He certainly wouldn't have bounced the ball on the ground on the pass to Wallace.

That's the case with every 3rd QB in the league. You have guys ranked on the depth chart because that's how you value you them, he has Charlie last... so he plays last. Pretty simple.

batch is on the team for one reason and thats big ben jsut make the guy a qb consultant and call it a day. i say a consultant because he could do everything a coach can but doesnt count as a coach.

I know how it works, the question is why isn't he using him when the QB's playing are held together by duct tape. Ben was terribly effective in SF last year and everyone on the planet that was watching that game on Sunday could see Lefty was hurting and couldn't make his throws but somehow Tomlin didn't notice?

Then Tomlin obviously doesn't think Charlie could've got it done based on what he's seen from Charlie.

I'm with you. I actuallly wanted Charlie to start the game... but I think it's just stupid to think it's because of some sort of personal rift. Tomlin is one of the most no nonsense guys in the NFL. If he had a beef with Batch, he'd go tell him and get it fixed or cut him.

you know we sometime dont agree.. but on this one you couldnt be more correct.. charlie wins when he plays and tomlin plays that slow wind sucking leftwich... somethigs wrong... charlie plays not to lose then lets the D win it in the end or we win it on a FG.. but it was the ST that lost it for us.. not even leftwich ... the coaching was terrible.. we are onthe 2 yard line and pass .. not once.. but twice... then we are running the ball at 6 yards a clip.. it was tomlins worst coached game ever from the minute he named leftwich the startign QB

The rift angle is just a way to get this out there for debate. The point is, he doesn't use Batch unless he absolutely has to. An argument can be made not to sit Ben even when he's hurt but not pulling Lefty when he's hurt? Is that not why a backup is there? To spell an injured QB? It's just strange to me, very stubborn of Tomlin and I think it cost us at least one game.

Hey Hines, no, we don't always agree and wanted to apologize for my behavior a couple weeks ago, just bad timing with your comment about NYC after we were just hit very hard by that storm. I can be a stupid hot head on here sometimes. But yes, ST was what ultimately cost us, take that one play away and we win. The pass on the 2 yard line, terrible, I know Wallace could have come down with it, but they shouldn't have even tried, we were running the ball down their throat. Lefty should have come out, clearly couldn't make his throws and cost us probably the most on the second to last play on a wide open Gilreath that would have put us in FG range. We should be tied for the division with the Ravens right now. Tomlin gets an F that game.

Was thinking this myself. There is obviously something going on between Batch and the coaches. I first noticed this last year...by not playing Batch at the end of last season it cost us bigtime in the playoffs. This is dejavu all over again.

I'm telling you, Batch is still a Steeler not because of his ability at this point in his career, but because of the motivational support he provides to the team. He's a likeable guy and I think the Steelers are committed to seeing him retire as one (maybe even becoming a coach of some kind afterwards). As for Tomlin not pulling others and putting him in, Tomlin can't seem to make mid-game (or even mid-season) adjustments no matter who we're talking about. We all wanted to blame Arians the last few seasons, but it seems apparent to me that Tomlin is equally to blame. The Steelers haven't been able to adjust to all the injuries or the changing basic nature of football the last few years, and it continues to hurt them.

We as fans - probably all fans, for that matter, but on this board particularly - always seem to have tremendous faith in "the other guy". Mendenhall is dancing? Put in Redman - he will magic up a solid offensive line just by being Isaac Redman. Wallace is asking for a contract? Antonio Brown will catch 700 passes this year and show no signs of arrogance, just by not being Mike Wallace. Which quarterback are we not playing at the moment? Charlie Batch - he would have taken us to a superbowl by now if Leftwich wasn't still winding up to throw his first pass from last week!

I'm a fan of Batch's work. But let's be realistic here. Let's not expect him to light it up as soon as he gets the nod. You don't rotate QBs like you might do RBs. You need the QB to be trusted and in control.

All of this might sound like I'm kissing Tomlin's ass, but I'm not trying to defend him putting in an injured player. Just making an observation, s'all.

All I know is Batch certainly didn't look ready or willing to come in Sunday night. He was wrapped up in his parka like it was a sleeping bag.

That is all fine and good. But the issue here is not really the love for the back up in this case. It is the obvious injured player costing the team and the inability of the head coach to see that. Lefty was obviously not hunt, but injured. He winced in pain at every attempt and could not deliver the ball. Knowing that he usually has a cannon and he was consistently short should be telling the coach he is physically unable to deliver the ball. At that point you MUST put in your back-up for the benefit of the team. Even knowing the back-up is not going to lite-it-up, at least he is not injured and will give his best, giving the team a better shot at a win. The Jags back up came in last week and had a great day and nearly upset a top team.

A QB that is too injured to deliver the ball is hurting the team, bottom line. Everyone in the world who was watching could see it except our coach. (And I typically do not bash on Tomlin)

i see it as MT knows our line is suspect and the ravens knew we had to throw the ball. lefty said he was fine and MT knew they hadn't made a move to get a BU qb in here the week before. he couldn't afford to have charlie go down in this game too. stupid, stupid move not to bring someone in a week ago. i'm telling you, ben will be back before he should be. total drop the ball for MT and the front office.
