So, does this mean they are planning on using a FB this year?

That’s foolish. We have barely used the fullback. It’s a luxury pick that we can’t afford. Why not developmental tackle, backup rb or cb or safety?

They use a FB about as much as most teams use a FB.

He'll play special teams I'm sure.

Why another FB if we don't even use Watt as it is? Why are they ignoring D?

This is a weird draft. I don't hate it. But we sure didn't get a whole lot of immediate help. We aren't even adding depth. Just a couple wideouts, a D line prospect, and Pickett.

Oye. These aren’t the positions they really need to be drafting for. A tackle, DB, edge all seemed like better choices here. Happy for Cam, that has to be pretty cool but doesn’t really do anything for them. Where’s he going to fit in? I get he is versatile but a lot of mouths to feed in front of him.

Maybe they keep him at TE or make him a RB so they can keep both lol

Watt played 86 or 7% of the offense snaps in 2021 and 332 or 68% of the special teams snaps
Watt plays a lot of ST, he also gets average snaps on offense for a FB.

Watt may be on his way out or this is just a PS guy.

The WR's are going to be immediate help. Maybe KP starts, maybe not. Leal will definitely be a rotational player for a year or two. FB seems weird here, but I understand the sentiment from a ST point of view. Maybe Heyward gets to drop some weight and play RB?

    1. QB of the future
    2. Current starting WR (base set of 3WR)
    3. DL prospect/rotational player
    4. Depth WR, likely to see plenty of snaps in rotation
    6. Special teamer

Can Conner Heyward be the next Chris Fuamatu'maafala?

Seriously? Conner is athletic. Ironhead was even bigger than Conner and he could dot the I. Maybe the Steelers think Conner can be Najee's change of pace.

So much for solidifying the defense this draft. We didn’t upgrade the secondary, we didn’t upgrade the linebackers, we really didn’t impact the defensive line, no improvement to offensive line. Only upgraded the wide receivers and brought in competition for Trubiscky that is it. I am so tired of drafting wide receivers. We had a chance to truly upgrade the defense this draft and we didn’t. I think that’s gonna come back to bite us.

Honestly, they could have probably got Heyward as UDFA. I don't like the pick.

After this draft I am honestly most excited about getting a young innovative guy in here from outside the organization to take Colbert spot. I doubt we do that but we probably won’t.

People do know that Trey Edmunds is still on the roster correct?... Well.. not for long he is not. Connor Heyward offers more receiving ability than Trey ever could. Another piece for Matt Canada for certain.

I expect more of Heyward as a pass catcher than Watt. For that matter, Watt is better served as a designated blocker with some receiving ability as opposed to a multi role option like some want him to be.

I freaking KNEW they would was…er…spend a late-round pick on Connor Heyward. He doesn’t fit any needs, nor do I think he’s a pro-level player, but, he’s Cam’s baby brother, so, sure, draft him! Such a Steeler thing to do. Same nepotistic mindset that resulted in the Pickett pick. Hey- maybe they’ll now risk pissing off TJ by cutting Derek, because you can only carry so many FBs. Brilliant!

I get that he plays ST, he's our captain but I've always wanted to see him used more like we used Rosie Nix, especially due to his salary. He has the talent. May be on his way out now but I hope not.

Not much in the lateral movement side of things, but he has really nice hands and has some experience running the ball. I doubt he will be anything more than a goal line option in that regard (or in cute designed passes to the FB), but I could see them listing him as a back up RB. He can block, catch, and run ok. If Isaac Redman saw carries in a Steelers offense, Conner Heyward certainly can.

Yeah! If Kenny Pickett's brother wasn't on the roster, then we would've gone a different route for sure! lol

Damned if you do, damned if you dont on Pickett. If we pass and he ends up being good, we're idiots for passing on the Pitt kid (again) and get memed on like idiots. If we draft him and he isn't amazing, its all going to be "only drafted bc Pitt, what idiots". I doubt the FO cares. They like him.
