They had a reported love affair with Ridder (and the requisite pro day dinner). Colbert had supposedly seen Howell play in person a handful of times. Either of those 2 QBs are “safer” picks than Willis. It’s possible that Willis would have been the next one, but it’s a long way from certainty. Unless they come out and say it publicly it’s all speculation.

I am guessing at the end of tonight we will have some indication of where DJ stands with the team.

As STD has pointed out a thousand times, we really do need to go Defense at #52, but if it is a WR then there may be a problem with DJ.

I think WR is a huge need even if we extend DJ.

    That would be classic.
I'm sorry but i would bust a gut if that were to happen. I'm not trying to be mean ,but it would be day one game tape review in camp for sure.
plus, some players need to be knocked down a peg so to speak, even if they play for the team i love.

Why? Wasn't he recruited by Canada to come to Pitt to run his offense?

I guess in a way, but why should it be? Hell if DJ doesn't get any contract but the new guy takes some of the coverage off of him come next year he has a better stand in contract talks no?

My thinking is simply based on need, and if DJ may not be there then there is a huge need for a WR. But, if DJ is there then all the needs on Defense should be addressed first.

Not necessarily. We do have a glaring need at WR2/3. Claypool is one of those, but who is the other? It also protects us against not HAVING to fork the money over to DJ if we don't have any other options OR force a first rounder at the WR position next year. It would just be good business to take a WR in the next two rounds.

I guess its better than giving it to Ike Taylor so he can drop the ticket... Or Rashard Mendenhall so he could fumble it at a crucial time in the draft lol

LOL my team but i'll be damn if i can't make fun of them too.
wasn't it Plax who spiked the ball after making a catch and a first down without being downed too?
    Under Cowher of all things!!

I agree we need a wr, i don't know how it would bother DJ? Although JuJU bothered AB but it benefitted the team that Juju made receptions because of all the attention on AB, yet AB still made his key receptions. Heck didn't DJ benefit from Chase in his rookie year?

Could they draft Willis at #52 and trade Mason for a used puck bag? Let them fight it out next couple years. He would be cheaper than Mason, and might actually turn out to be good.

Washington did it, and it turned out well. Just saying.

I was young, but I remember that well lol Man, would he spike the ticket and walk away before making the pick? Who could shoot themselves in the foot (or thigh) worse than that???

Someone could steal the ticket and run the other way. That would piss Bill Cowher off, but he would only THINK about throwing that right hook and let him run right past him.

Mike Tomlin would try tripping the guy with the ticket, but would jump away at the last second.

Artie Burns would just let the guy with the ticket run right past him without checking who we picked...

    Too much fun :)

Yes, but DJ was a complete unknown at that time. I doubt it would make DJ mad... I understand its someone to compete with for targets, but at the same time its someone keeping that double team off of you so you can go be great yourself. He doesn't seem like a selfish kid. I'm sure his mentality is the same either way. Big season in 2021 = Big $$$ in 2022 lol
