Edmunds is nowhere near as good as Clark.

The modern Lois Lane is a badass, but I get your point.

What if Edmunds becomes a Pro Bowl player in '22? Your head would explode. It could happen. Scary.

Maybe half of the league's safeties will opt out of the Pro Bowl and make your weird little dream come true. He is nowhere near earning that on merit.

Actually, I would love to see it happen, but then it would be the free-agent safety they signed to a bargain contract, not the bust they reached for in the first round.

Given how you have seen Malik going as high as number two in some mocks... does that alleviate your concerns at all? No seriously... does that help?

Was that meant for me and a different thread? Or does Heinz not want Willis, either?

    Do not forget Brisker!!!......

.... Though I believe that his availability by pick 52 will be in question for certain. I expect I run on safeties within the top 5 picks of Day 2.

Edmunds basically got backup money. It’s not like adding Mathieu would be the only move they made this offseason. He wouldn’t get a long contract, a draft pick could still step into a starting roll after a couple seasons. DB is the hardest position to come in and play, would take the pressure off them.

I love Brisker, and would be thrilled if we draft him. However he doesn’t fit my statement about a guy who won’t be ready to start on day 1. He’d have Edmunds riding the pine opening day. I agree on a bunch of safeties going early day 2.

Yes if Brisker or Pitre are still there at #52 then you draft one of them despite Edmunds being back.

I’m happy they re-signed edmunds, my fellow Hokie. I think it was a good move before the draft because it takes away a glaring need for a first round safety. I think now they pick best player available since we should be basically set positionally….. draft a player that can be an upgrade over someone…. Kinda plays into our hands a little now….. we don’t need to draft a QB or Safety in the 1st so it’ll keep other teams guessing a bit.

Willis would be a wasted pick at 20

That answers one of my questions for AQL. I'm still not sure why it is on this thread. I wouldn't go quite that far, but I agree with you in not wanting Willis in the first round.

Blast as much as I wanted a quality strong safety I feel that ship has sailed.

Edmonds hung out there and got zero from other teams. The only saving grace is he knows the system. He is not a quality player. Hopefully they draft a strong safety.

Heinz you had to be laughing when you wrote this yes? Common man :lolol:

I agree with you that Edmunds is not good, but supposedly, he did get other offers. They just weren't what he was looking for, so the best play was to take a deal that puts him in the best position to try for a bigger pay day next year. That was returning to Pittsburgh, where he has outstanding players around him and he knows the system.

Why? Would it have been unreasonable for Trubisky to ask? Trubisky was the top FA QB and could go anywhere; they couldn't guarantee him a starting job with Mason there, but they should have been able to tell him what they were going to do in the draft if he signed with Pittsburgh.

The Steelers at the time already had Mason in place as the starter and were saying it was going to be an open competition between Mason and Haskins. To add Trubisky and then another 1st round pick would make it a complete sh-tshow this offseason as all 4 QBs would be wanting to be the Starter.

Not enough balls to go around for all 4 QBs to get a look at the Starting Job.

I don’t think it is in the cards either, my OP was more to emphasize how little Edmunds signed for but I would certainly still welcome Matthieu here if the Steelers were so inclined to do so.

FWIW, some in the media like Kaboly said they're out on Mathieu after signing Edmunds.

Nobody is promised anything but a fair chance to complete for a starting spot
