Justin Layne going into his fourth year, and he still can't get on the field on a consistent basis, they didn't draft him in the third round just to play special teams. He could get cut if they draft a CB, and it comes down to him or Pierre. Anthony McFarland I know he was injured at the beginning of last season, after he got healthy he still couldn't get on the active roster.

We have a few too many holes on the offense to go defense all 3 rounds. At least one of the picks in the first three rounds will be offense.. it kinda has to be. We are short WR's, we have an opening for the QB of the future, and could always select an OL in there as our line was horrific last season. While I would love a CB, S, and LB with the first three selections.... I just don't see how we can pull that off and feel good about where the offense is going to be.

If I had a guess, we go QB in round 1, WR and S in round 2 and 3 (pick your poison on which gets taken first).

I think it's make or break for most of the team to be honest

    Trubisky and Mason
    Bush, Spoon

Pretty much any of the one or 2 year contract guys

    This is their audition year

    What I would do
    CB
    SS
    OT
    WR

But I am not the Steelers and I think
they will grab a QB I am hoping 2nd round
depending on what they have to give up to get the QB.
The following positions is your guess is as good as mine,

They might need two receivers, I doubt they will pick defense with the first three picks.

While I can see Your position on this....then that would leave only one D player picked. IMO. You want 2 stop a high flying offense....it's not by trying 2 build another high flying offense. It's by building a D.... 2 stop them. JMO.

I also doubt they will, but I still think they should.
Question....What CB on this team can run with J. Chase....even for a few seconds so We can get pressure???? Especially with the other Wrs they have. We will not stop them by adding more Wrs 2 our team.
Hell We've done this before with a HOF Qb. At one time We had a top flight O.....only then We just lost Important games 40 - 38, 42 - 37 , or around those lines of scores. People....our best years as a real dominant team....are always when Our D has been awesome....We've seen our O be awesome....with nothing 2 show for it. JMO.

That's what I think is going to happen. I would love to see 2 defensive players picked this year, but understand that its just likely that we are going 2 on offense due to the facts that A. our defense is better than our offense currently B. too many holes on the offense to ignore it.

We don't have to be a high flying offense, we just need to be a solid offense. We sucked @$$ last year on offense. Something needs to happen there.

Ummmm. We sucked pretty bad on the Defense also. 24th overall, and 32nd in run stopping (that's last).
I'm not disagreeing with You. I'm just giving My thoughts.
Here's one....While We have seen teams win a SB with a sucky offense (no matter how few times)....Have We ever seen a team win a SB with a sucky Defense???

What is interesting is that scoring defense seems to matter the most. Some of the defenses have been elite, some have been solid but unspectacular. I think it shows that while an elite defense gives you a great chance at winning it all, you can still win with a defense that limits points in the red zone and takes it away with above average frequency.

The Steelers last season struggled against the run. They were 20th in scoring defense and 15th in total takeaways. However they were the top defense in sacks and 4th in red zone TD percentage. I honestly believe that the horrific offense hurt the defense in the scoring department (we were 3 and out all freaking game) and gave the opposition shorter fields than normal. We can shore that up by just being a tad better on offense and finding a way to be better against the run (getting Alualu and Tuitt back and the Jack signing should help in that department). I don't see why we couldn't have a SB caliber defense next year. We just need to have an NFL caliber offense to go with it. Then we might have something :)

    I would totally agree......
If I didn't see this team(Steelers) give up so many Td drives on the 1st time the Defense hit the field, The Defense give up long drives before the offense ever seen the field, or the Defense give up long Td drives 1st think after halftime.
If it was only after the offense stalled I would bye into this more.

Their D didn't suck in any one of those.
The 2002 team didn't make the SB.
So I'm guessing You mean 2001 it was ranked 6 th. You are looking at the year they won the SB ....not the actual season.

Those 3 Super Bowl seasons the Pats were 6th, 1st and 2nd in posts allowed. Not too shabby.

The Steelers only gave up 66 first quarter points this past season... only 11 teams were better in this regard. I understand most teams will give up more points in the 2nd and 4th quarter than the 1st and 3rd, but compared to other teams we actually fared pretty well in first quarter scoring defense. It actually lends some sort of confirmation to my aforementioned theory. However, I will agree that some things need to get better defensively. Its just that we are closer to a SB caliber defense than we are to an above average offense.

6th, 1st, and 7th... But darn good nonetheless. Only the NYG's improbable run saw a scoring defense outside the top 10. You can give up yards, just not a lot of points if you want to win in the post season. Holding teams to FG's is huge.

Per Pro Football Reference (which may be wrong) it’s 6th, 1st and 2nd for the 2001, 2003 and 2004 seasons. Whatever the rankings were, that was a damn good defense.
